商品の説明
By the end of the 1960s, David Ruffin had left the Temptations, leaving behind a brief but treasured legacy as the voice of their immortal hits "My Girl," "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," I Wish It Would Rain" and more; his solo career had started with a flourish as "My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)" reached the top ten. His older brother Jimmy would forever be remembered for his classic "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted;" Jimmy had also found international fame as a favorite of UK. fans. Then, Jimmy thought, why don't we do an album together? I Am My Brother's Keeper, released in the fall of 1970, was the stunning result. The album featured Jimmy and David feeding off each other, a whole history of their upbringing and influences poured into 12 thrilling performances. "Stand By Me," a faux "live" version of the Ben E. King classic, was the chart hit off the album; also on the LP are awesome covers of hits by the Delfonics, Tyrone Davis and Jerry Butler, as well as originals from Motown staff writers, produced by Frank Wilson, Bobby Taylor, Henry Cosby, and others. It's now being released on CD for the first time, newly remastered with two newly discovered bonus tracks: the hard-charging "You're What I Need (Not What I Want)," produced by Taylor, and an undubbed mix of "Stand By Me" with an extended fade. Along with the great music in this first-ever CD reissue of Brother's Keeper is a 16-page booklet with original and new liner notes, detailed track annotations, great photos, and a reproduction of an original LP cover concept that went unused and missing for decades.

Jimmy Ruffin has long been a popular singer on the UK pop charts, whereas his younger brother, David, has not. Odd that, considering that the consensus of opinion is that David is one of the greatest male vocalists ever.
The album was recorded during a slump in David's US career and when Jimmy was scoring hit after hit in the UK but not back home.
The album sounds so much better in it's remastered form. There are several cover versions of old soul hits, of which STAND BY ME is the best, and some wonderful Motown originals. We get two bonus tracks, one a gem composed by Gloria Jones and Pam Sawyer and the other is STAND BY ME without the over-dubbed audience sounds.
The packaging is superb, including a new interview with Jimmy, and the wonderful original cover illustration, which was rejected for being too gay, perhaps!
It's an over-looked album which is rightly getting a new lease of life.
he remembered it to be. He love David Ruffin's slyle of singing.
