The first post NIN project of Trent Reznor featuring vocals from wife and ex-West Indian Girl Mariqueen Maandig and his regular collaborator Atticus Ros.
This isn't really a review of the physical product- if you didn't know this was released as a free EP online so the physical release is for die hard fans only. The packaging itself is just a cardboard sleeve without liner notes. I have seen another version which is a plastic case but so far as I'm aware this is the same tracklisting.
This is a side project by Trent Reznor and Atticus of Nine Inch Nails with his wife Mariqueen Maandig on vocals. Really it's the vocals that are the main change here. Where the full HTDA album follow up, Welcome Oblivion (and prescuror EP An Omen), welcomed in a very different style to any NIN release with what was in my opinion a largely minimalistic tone, the musical differences between NIN and this EP are less apparent.
Whether you think this is a bad thing or not depends on perspective. For me this is one of the most-played releases from the Reznor discography despite it's short length. What you get is a layered sound that is complicated, at times hypnotic, often dark, electronic and rocky. There are strong melodies underpinning it all where Welcome Oblivion seemed to experiment more with dissonance.
I just wish this album was longer and if you're just getting into NIN and experimenting with what to listen to I honestly think this should be one of the first things you check out.
Ottimo assaggio del nuovo corso di Trent Reznor: piacevolmente ascoltabile. Un EP di difficile reperibilità nei negozi di dischi... buon per noi che c'è Amazon!

I have liked NIN for years but would not say I was a fanatic. Then I picked up his soundtrack work. Not with any goal in collecting all his work in mind. Then this came out! Before I realized it I had most of his body of work. This side project is brilliant. This along with the album are both great bodies of work. This would be the mellower side of his musical psyche. His wife Mariqueen Maandig has the voice of an angel (I know that sounds corny) even live it's beautiful. I think a lot of people think she is riding on Reznors coat tales but she isn't. Live she more then carried her weight (what do you know a beautiful person who's art does not suck). He also works with his music collaborator Atticus Ross. Trent has been working with him for a long time so you know this band was a group effort. If you like NIN this might not be what you are expecting but it's worth checking out!
