Duke PearsonのDedication!と中身は同じ。
そもそも原盤（当盤）はJazz Line。対してDuke Pearson盤はPrestige。Jazz Lineの盤は
他アルバムもBlack Lionでジャケ違いやリーダー違いで出たりと、重複注意である。
ジャケ違い例：Duke PearsonのAngel Eyes→Angel EyesのみカットしてBags Groove
リーダー違い例：Dave BaileyのBush!→Kenny DorhamのOsmosis

重複を承知でAltemate Takeが気になって当盤を購入したが、
Minor Mishapに関しては、当盤のAltemate TakeがDuke Pearson盤の本テイクであり、
当盤の本テイクは当盤のみ収録されており、こちらのテイクの方が好みなので正解であった。

手元の当盤はSOLAR RECORDS　2010年発売のCD。

音はリマスターの関係かOJCのDuke Pearson盤の方が良く、当盤は全体に音がこもり
広がりに欠ける。

演奏はまあ好みではあるが、Drumsが単調、Tromboneは下手、Bassもイマイチ。
他のメンバーは上手いんだが、バランスに欠ける感はある。
まあFreddie HubbardかPepper AdamsかDuke Pearsonが好きならば買い。
自分はPepper Adamsが好きなのでOKである。

ジャケットの、"Freddie Hubbard"のスペル"Freddy Hubbard"になってます。お姉さんもハンモックで笑っていますが、「宙ぶらりん」てな感じが否めずこのアルバムを象徴しているようです。

Prime Freddie Hubbard (1961) with prime Pepper Adams, Duke Pearson & Lex Humphries - a unique combination! I've been a Freddie Hubbard fan for 35 years, but I didn't know about this album. Apparently, the leader wasn't really Hubbard but a now obscure trombonist, who sounds just fine. But you get plenty of Hubbard and the whole thing has a nice sound and vibe. None of the tunes are Hubbard's, but they're nice tunes. And cover art that is so square it's almost hip, with some nice photos inside. I recommend this.

The little-known trombonist Willie Wilson didn't have much luck. This excellent album was intended to be his first as leader but the record label, JAZZLINE, went broke and Wilson died a couple of years later in 1963. The record was eventually issued several years later under Freddie Hubbard's & Duke Pearson's name.
It was recorded in New York on August 2, 1961 with Wilson(trombone); Freddie Hubbard(trumpet); Pepper Adams(baritone sax); Duke Pearson(piano); Thomas Howard(bass) & Lex Humphries(drums).
The seven memorable tracks(plus five alternative takes) include originals by Tommy Flanagan, Willie Wilson, Duke Pearson, Donald Byrd, Pepper Adams plus two standards that showcase the talented but ill-fated trombonist.
'Groovy!' is an exhilarating album which still sounds fresh over 50 years later and should appeal to most hard bop enthusiasts.

I would have given this CD five stars but the album title and the cover art leave a lot to be desired! Another reason for not awarding the full five stars is that this is not really Freddie Hubbard's recording date but rather that of the almost unknown trombonist Willie Wilson. You can't blame the record company for wanting to cash in on Freddie's reputation but it's not entirely honest.

Having said all that, the CD is really good and with five alternate takes (all quite valid) it is excellent value for money. The recording, made in 1961, features highly competent playing especially by Hubbard, Pepper Adams and Duke Pearson who are ably supported by Thomas Howard on bass and Lex Humphries on drums. The weakest of the horn section is Willie Wilson himself who displays a gorgeous tone on the ballads but is not so secure on the uptempo numbers. His technique compares unfavourably with the work of J.J. Johnson and Curtis Fuller both his contemporaries. Unfortunately not much is known about Wilson and he died in 1963 leaving almost no further examples of his work. In fact it seems there was no photo available of Wilson for this album because the trombonist featured in the accompanying booklet is Curtis Fuller!

Still a very enjoyable album which is a fine example of a developing Freddie Hubbard and a sadly missed Willie Wilson.
