Ronnie McNeir's Motown album is re-issued at last. Ronnie was a multi-tasker, both writing the songs and playing the instruments on this interesting set. As one of the few Motown artists to be so involved in his work, it's interesting to compare his product with contemporary albums by Stevie, Smokey and Marvin.
Ronnie's voice has a gentle Smokey Robinson-ish feel to it and his songs are, IMHO, superior to the stuff Marvin was thrusting into the charts. The album has aged very well and sounds far better today than it did back then.
As well as having a superb album on CD again, there are some excellent bonus tracks from an aborted follow-up. Ronnie was a true Motowner, in that he composed his songs with some wonderful Motown artists, including Kim Weston and Chris Clark.
It's a lost delight and deserves a place in every Motown fans collection.
