Dan Bejar started Destroyer as a solo home-recording project in the early to mid-nineties. Destroyer's two recent limited edition 12-inches, BAY OF PIGS and ARCHER ON THE BEACH, were lauded by critics and sold out in the first month of release. Upon hearing BAY OF PIGS, Pitchfork declared Bejar "a songwriter of the highest order," and the AV Club was one of many outlets to declare the song, "a real epic a meditation on life and love in times of crisis." KAPUTT is Destroyer's ninth album. An 8-piece Destroyer orchestra will tour the US beginning in March.

The New PornographersのDan Bejar氏によるソロ・プロジェクト、Destroyerのアルバムです。か細く不安定なボーカルと甘美なメロディーの絶妙な味わい、ディスコ風シンセビートとジャジーなサックスの融合など、大人の切ない陶酔とほろ苦い喪失とが同居したAORサウンドは、懐かしいのに新しいという奇妙な感覚を引き起こします。さらに、自然なようで不自然、純粋なのかひねくれているのか、真面目にやってるのかふざけてるのかわからない、独特の「つかめなさ」は本作最大の特徴であり魅力であると思います。聴きこむうちにどんどんクセになり、発売当初から現在まで、私の愛聴盤として重要な位置を占めている不思議な作品です。

イントロの旋律から既に眩暈を感じそうな<#1 Chinatown>、インディーファン以外の心も鷲掴みにするであろうキャッチーな<#2 Blue Eyes>、シンセやギターの手触りなどNew Orderを彷彿とさせる<#3 Savage Night at the Opera>、儚げなギター＆フルートの導入部から勇ましいトランペットが乱れ飛ぶ終盤まで見事な構成の<#4 Suicide Demo for Kara Walker>、優雅なホーンが印象的なリラックスしたムードの<#5 Poor in Love>、80年代への愛と幻想に満ちた代表曲<#6 Kaputt>、繁華街での孤独と混乱が見え隠れする<#7 Downtown>、ポジティブなビートに乗せ美しくも辛辣な詞を歌う<#8 Song for America>、奇妙で危ういバランス感覚のまま言葉が溢れだしてゆく大作<#9 Bay of Pigs (Detail)>と、全曲すばらしい。

何とも言えないもどかしさがあり、ゆったりとした曲調に悲観的で辛辣な歌詞。これはすべての曲にいえるが、特に7.Downtownはその雰囲気に飲み込まれてしまう。

だけど暖かくゆるいボーカルが、すべてを受け入れてくれるような包容力がある。

Kenne das Album seit Veröffentlichung und hat mich von Anfang an faszieniert.
Habe vor kurzem die erweiterte CD -Version bei Amazon gekauft und die Faszination ist aufgrund des Longtracks The Laziest River noch größer geworden. Für mich eine der besten Platten aller Zeiten, ist einzigartig, ein brilliantes Juwel.
Ich werde mir in Kürze noch die Vinylausgabe bestellen. Das magische an der Platte ist, dass sie eine Stimmung erzeugt welche in der Realität auf dieser Welt nicht wirklich vorhanden ist.

This is a black vinyl standard weight , the advert mentions white vinyl from record store day which would have worked with white cover art. I am very happy with the pressing. The recording is from 2011 and was one of the records of the year for those with a taste for the idiosyncratic lyrics and vocals of Dan Bejar. The musical arrangements with saxophone and trumpet played through analogue guitar effects pedals really has to be seen live, as this is at the fore. There are great keys,guitar and drum textures. The aesthetic of the cover makes owning it as an LP worthwhile but I already had a CD. Definite 5 stars for music though.
