Out of print in the U.S.! This five CD set contains the best of Elvis' '70s recordings and includes hits, album tracks, alternate takes and a disc of live recordings. Following on from his '50s box (The King of Rock 'n' Roll) and the from Nashville to Memphis box, which covered the cream of his '60s non-soundtrack recordings, Walk a Mile in My Shoes is an excellent collection of tracks that offers a fine reappraisal of the King's most overlooked period. While some may refer to this period as his 'bloated Vegas years', there is plenty of proof that he was still a vital and passionate performer in his final years. Features 'Burning Love', 'Always on My Mind', 'For the Heart', 'Moody Blue', 'Patch It Up' and many more.

Always on my mind .Just pretend 等。

- 1 titre enregistré le 4 janvier 1973H.I.C. Arena, Honolulu.
- ʻʻAmazing Grace’’ et ʻʻ(That's What You Get) For Lovin' Me’’, ont été enregistrés le 15 mars 1971 au Studio B de RCA, Nashville.

- 2 enregistrés 10 juin 1972 au Madison Square Garden, New York.
- 2 enregistrés le 4 janvier 1973 au H.I.C. Arena, Honolulu.
- Et Les titres informels : Alla’ En El ‘’Rancho Grande’’, ‘’Froggy Went A Courtin’’’ et ‘’Stanger In My Own Home Town’’.
"Walk a Mile in My Shoes" is a very good 5-CD box set, with Elvis as usual showing his great versatility in singing many styles of music very well, although by the Seventies his emphasis in the studio was on country music. (I keep calling this a "box set" but it actually opens like a book and is very compact). His Seventies song selection overall was not quite as good as in the Fifties or late Sixties, but still there are a lot of good to great songs on here. Not all of his studio output from the Seventies is in this collection, yet this is a very good selection of the best of that time. Other Amazon reviewers have done a good job of discussing Elvis's music in the Seventies, so I won't repeat that, but here are a few thoughts I've had as I've listened to this collection -
1) Song selection and order - Discs 1 and 2 are songs that were released as singles (45 rpm records at that time), while discs 3 and 4 are highlights from his albums. I would prefer for all these songs to be put together in a roughly chronological order since I don't much care whether a song was released as a single or not. In my opinion a few songs are not good enough for this box set, including "Heart of Rome" "Take Good Care of Her," and the studio version of "My Way." And I would have added some, such as "The Last Farewell," "If You Don't Come Back," "Spanish Eyes," and especially "Early Morning Rain." This set would also have been a good opportunity to give us a less overdubbed, and thus improved, version of "And I Love You So." But overall I think this box set has a good song selection. Elvis's Christmas and religious recordings in the Seventies are represented here by the songs "Merry Christmas Baby" (which appears to be the original album version of that), a good alternate take of "Amazing Grace," "Life, and "I Got a Feelin' in my Body."
2) The Live Disc - Since concerts were so prominent in Elvis's work in the Seventies, I think devoting a disc to the best of his live performances is a good idea. The recordings selected from various concerts are mostly great, but I wonder why "I Was the One" is included since Elvis didn't remember a lot of the words to the song. Also, "My Way" and particularly "An American Trilogy" should be included on the concert disc, but they ARE on other discs here. And often there's just 1 to 3 seconds between songs, giving much of the concert a very rushed feeling and leaving out almost all of Elvis's comments on stage. The biggest puzzle for me about the live disc is why there is no real ending provided to this concert. Elvis usually concluded his concerts with "Can't Help Falling in Love" then an instrumental "closing vamp" as he left the stage. Yet on this box set the concluding song of the concert is "Unchained Melody" from 1977, then several rehearsal songs are given, which leaves me feeling like something is missing. For more of a complete concert feel it would have been better to end this disc with "Lawdy Miss Clawdy," "Can't Help Falling in Love" and the "Closing Vamp" from Elvis's 1974 Memphis concert, when he still sounded great. ( Elvis Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis (Legacy Edition) )
3) Sound quality - All these songs have been digitally remastered for this box set and they sound great, although there are some newer remasterings to compare these to. I have not heard most of the newer remasterings, although I can say that these songs are remastered better than on my individual album CDs from the 1980s and '90s. Apparently many of these songs have also been remixed (by Dennis Ferrante, James Nichols, & Ernst Mikael Jorgensen), although the remixing is subtle and in my opinion an improvement. To give a couple of examples, on my original recording of "Life" the end of the song was so busy that it was hard to hear Elvis, but on this box set that's cleaned up. And on my original of "Bridge over Troubled Water," at the beginning of the song Elvis's voice was way too distant, but on here Elvis's voice is brought forward, while the applause that was originally added at the end is thankfully now gone (this is a studio recording so there was no audience).
4) The CD holders in the box - The strange CD holders here make the CDs very hard to get in and out, and the CDs are more likely to get damaged too. I can understand the company trying to save space, but this is going too far. If I tried to get the CDs in and out of this when I'm driving I'd probably wreck my car! I finally gave up and put them all in individual plastic cases.
5) The information booklet - The essay is very interesting, there are lots of great Elvis photos, and the discography information is great for people who don't have Elvis Presley: A Life in Music: The Complete Recording Sessions . But it would help to be given detailed information about what is on the 5 discs in this collection. The songs are listed on the back of the box, but what about the recording dates and sources of the rehearsal and live songs? Much of the text is also printed on a background that is hard to read on.
6) Extras - As a collector I much appreciate the unusual tracks provided here, with the rehearsal of "Stranger in My Own Home Town" particularly fascinating. The rehearsal of "The Twelfth of Never" is very pretty, as are some others, although a concert recording I've heard of "Softly As I Leave You" was performed with more feeling. It's also fun to have longer and unedited versions of some songs, and most of these are better than the original releases.
All in all, "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" is a very good collection. This box set is a real bargain now too, so get this collection if you like Elvis in the Seventies and you don't already have these recordings. That is, unless you'd rather get all the individual album CDs that Elvis made in the Seventies in order to get more songs.
