KMFDMの2年ぶりの新作。
毎回安定した新譜を発表しているKMFDMですが
今作もさすがです、非常に安定しています。
速い曲はほとんどなく少し物足りなさを感じますが
全体通してクオリティは高いです。

ゲストとしてFree Dominguez（Kidneythieves）、Koichi Fukuda（Static-X）
Sebastian Komor(Icon Of Coil)などのクレジットが記載されています。

結成25周年を超えてもなお、わりと短いスパンで
高クオリティーの作品を発表するKMFDM、最高です。

余談になりますがかつてKMFDMにも在籍していた
Tim Skoldも15年ぶりのソロを発表するので楽しみです。

2012年1月になりましたが現在KM最新作!!
発売前にKRANKのPVを見ていました。 ニヒル以来でしょうか…久しぶりにカッコイイ曲だなぁと思う中、発信音を使ってるのが懐かしいなぁと思いました。
実はPVの曲はシングル盤1曲目でした(笑) 本作品の方はイントロのDrとSEが何かを生産しているような雰囲気でPad音が静けさをリアルに再現しています。 何度も聴いていたらPad音ではなくルチアが『アーアーアー…』と言ってる事に驚き。

それで比較的、全曲どれもミドルテンポですねぇ。 前作同様ルチアは綺麗に歌いあげてますし キャプテン・サシャは珍しくフェーダーを絞らずに声も音に埋もれてませんし ただ、キレの良い曲を聴きたい方にはオススメできませんがPigが好きな人はM10の曲のGtや男女混声合唱のようなフレーズは良いですよ Pigと言えば今年あたり新譜が発売して欲しいですね。

**Intro**
When KMFDM published this album, the significance of The Arab Spring had just been realized, and you can see this in some of the content of this album, such as "Rebels in Kontrol" which was inspired by events such as Muammar Gaddafi getting captured in killed in Libya as a result of revolution and civil war there. Much of the content of KMFDM's music is about revolution, activism, and anarchy, so it was very appropriate of them to go after this for inspiration for this album. On the other hand, there is music on this album like "Take It Like A Man" which is quite pop-like and dance-y, while still handing onto Industrial Metal characteristics, and I welcome this as well.

**The Music**
Some say that KMFDM had its peak creativity in the early 1990s. This might be the case, because their musical style was a lot more groundbreaking and unique back then, but they were at the time of this album (and still today) going strong. Kaptain K and Lucia have been stable members of the band, and I believe Lucia is better than some of their earlier female vocalists. Here is a summary of the best songs:

1.) Krank - One of the best songs on this album. KMFDM always has one or two songs that are dedicated toward lofty claims about how awesome they are. This is one of them. Their is also a lot of anarchy in this song, with dramatic lyrics such as "Freedom is a loaded shotgun!"
3.) Rebels In Kontrol - Suggestive of the Arab Spring and Libya, but a fantasy depiction of "what if" KMFDM launched a world-wide political revolution, complete with radio news chatter recordings.
4.) Lynchmob - Also suggestive of political anarchy.
5.) Take It Like A Man - Synth-pop like accompaniment, prominent Lucia vocals. Sexy. Not very heavy for KMFDM.
7.) Dystopia - Also prominent Lucia vocals - she covers the whole spectrum from shouting to caressing the microphone.
9.) Spectre - Echoing vocal duet with Lucia and Kaptain K. Really nice percussion and guitar accompaniment. Dramatic.
10.) Amnesia - Also suggestive of the Arab Spring. The lyrics are fantastic. "Emergency! Emergency! Insurgency! Amnesia!" and sexy moments of slower ballad-like stuff from Lucia all come together. Finally at the end, there are some Lucia vocals that are either in a language that I can't identify, or the are recorded backwards - I don't know. Check this out.

**Conclusions**
KMFDM is still going strong, but the band likes to work with lyrical motifs that are repeated between albums, so some of you will feel like this album is more of the same. The ultra heavy beat is still definitely here though, and I feel like they have indeed covered new ground because of the way The Arab Spring is suggested in this album. I certainly like what they've done here. Also, this album is produced really well, which wasn't the case with some of the very early KMFDM work. Because there are so many good songs on this album, I would recommend buying the whole thing, rather than single songs.

Just because this is a KMFDM album, I have to say at the end:

KMFDM sucks!!!

KMFDM's new album WTF?! is a wonderful blend of deliciously dark, deep, gritty, and funky tracks that really showcase Sascha's ability to create epic and diverse music. If you're a fan of KMFDM's previous releases, then I guarantee you'll be a fan of this one, too. It's impossible to choose the best songs from the album because they're all amazing! Highly recommend it for fans of industrial metal.

Dies ist das mittlerweile 17.Studioalbum von Käpt'n K und Konsorten und die Maschine läuft noch immer, von Ruhestandsmentalität keine Spur.

Zugegeben, KMFDM erfinden weder sich selbst noch das Genre Industrial-Rock neu, wobei ich vermute dass sie das gar nicht wollen und es mir auch so ganz recht ist. Rein subjektiv betrachtet finde ich dass WTF?! nicht so schnell ins Ohr geht wie die letzten Veröffentlichungen. Stilistisch würde ich es als Mischung bei den Kultalben ANGST (1993), XTORT (1996) und SYMBOLS (1997) einordnen, wobei der etwas erdigere und nicht ganz so fette Sound wie sonst, von der Produktion her eher an Tohuwabohu (2007) erinnert, und die Elektronik wieder etwas mehr in den Vordergrund getreten ist. Anfangs dachte ich mir bei einigen der Songs wirklich "WTF?!", nach öfterem durchhören wurden die meisten davon aber doch noch zum Genuss.
Im Gegensatz zur letzten Veröffentlichung BLITZ, wo man auf alte Mitstreiter wie Tim Skold zurückgegriffen hat, gibts diesmal ein paar neue Freigeister an Bord. Allen voran der Dark-Electro Master Sebastian Komor. Schon sein Remix von KRANK auf der gleichen Vorab-Single ist mindestens gleichwertig zum Originalsong, der stark wie eine Mischung aus Light (ANGST) und Megalomaniac (SYMBOLS) daherkommt. Bei meinen weiteren persönlichen Highlights, dem erfrischend groovigem Rebels in Kontrol (erinnert etwas an Rules von XTORT) und dem heftig stampfendem Amnesia war er auch mit von der Partie. Sehr positiv zu erwähnen sind auch noch das rein elektronische Panzerfaust mit altbekannten Texten aber auf Italienisch und sehr mächtiger Refrain-Melodie, sowie das düster treibende Spectre mit William Wilson als Gastsänger.
Einzig wirkliche Enttäuschung für mich persönlich ist Come on - Go off, die Kollaboration mit Static-X Gitarrist Koichi Fukuda. Ich vergöttere normalerweise seine treibenden Riffs sowie sein Gespür für diabolische Samples, aber mit dem wirren Geschreddere das hier produziert wurde kann ich leider überhaupt nichts anfangen. Nun ja wie heissts aber so schön, über Kunst kann man eben nicht Streiten, und so lange eine Band wie KMFDM nach so vielen Jahren noch immer nicht ihren Biss verloren hat und weiterhin geschäftig bleibt, werde auch ich weiterhin ein treuer Lauscher bleiben.

i hear some bitching about how KMFDM are not progressing or not what they used to be.... to that i say move with or stay in the past listening to the same album over and over.
This has some killer tracks, great -mechanical industrial- elements and as always, very slick synth work. Club tracks interspersed with grinding tracks, it's KMFDM as you'd expect in 2011. A really nice aggressive follow up to 'blitz' which was a touch more "euro" feeling.

Ich geb's zu! KMFDM haben mich schon immer sehr verwöhnt und dann war da ja noch die grandiose Single zu Krank. Von daher liegt die Messlatte entsprechend hoch und den im Vorfeld hohen Erwartungen kann m. E. hier nicht ganz nachgekommen werden.
Da ich seit jeher eher die experimentelle, technoide, crossover Seite des Projekts (mittlerweile ja eine 'richtige' Band), also von UAIOE über NAIVE, Money, XTORT, Symbols, ADIOS etc bis zum letzten Highlight BLITZ schätze, bin ich von WTH?! eher weniger beeindruckt.
Richtet sich das vorliegende Werk eher an die Fans der Angst NIHIL Ära.
Diese Alben haben selbstverständlich ihre Berechtigung im Repertoire, aber mir waren sie für kmfdm Verhältnisse immer etwas eintönig.
Auch hier: Niederwalzende Midtempo Smasher jagen einander und auch der Rmx zu Krank ist entsprechend 'rockig' ausgefallen. Fans der EBM Schiene dürften auf ihre Kosten kommen. M. E. merkt man bei KMFDM Veröffentlichungen die Abwesenheit von Gastmusikern, die frischen Wind in die Stücke bringen, immer wieder schmerzlich an.
Ansonsten KMFDM sind KMFDM und jeder Fan wird sowieso zugreifen!
