リリースから既に１ヶ月近くが経とうとするのに、音楽シーンにおける本作の扱いが、あまりに限定的で極小であることに、若干の苛立ちすら覚える。・・・
そんな感覚に捉われてしまうほど、このアルバムが放出するパワー＆エナジーには、凄絶なものがあり、その摩訶不思議な魅惑のサウンドに、僕などはすっかり虜にされてしまった。・・・なんでもっとメディアは彼らのことを取り上げないんだろう？
のっけから１１分超の長尺曲（しかもその前半部分はアンビエント感たっぷりのエクスペリメンタルなインスト）でスタートするこの５ｔｈ作は、恐らく、今年を代表する超強力盤となる。少なくとも僕はそう信じている。とにかく、桁違いのポテンシャルを有する作品なのだ。
基本は、前作の流れを受け継いだものになっているとは思う。
エスニックでオーガニックな楽曲を、ハイテク、ハイファイサウンドにより構築、膨大な音の情報量で聴き手を圧倒する、といった趣だ。
が、よりエレクトロニクスを大胆に取り入れた本作は、純粋にいい意味でメジャー感が増しており、更なるスケールアップを遂げているという印象を、強烈にアピールしていると思う。
ポップ感と前衛的な部分とが、絶妙のバランスで組み合わされつつ、めくるめく音のカレイドスコープを繰り広げていくのだ。
まさに、恍惚と陶酔の４８分間だ。
ブルックリン一派の出世頭といえば、それは確かにVAMPIRE　WEEKENDなのかもしれない。
しかし、サウンドの前衛性や唯一無比のオリジナリティ、ロック/ポップミュージックにおける貪欲なるイノベーターとしての存在感といった側面においては、僕は迷うことなくこのGGDをその最右翼に推しておきたい。
とにかく、これはここで僕がゴチャゴチャ御託を並べるより、実際に聴いて頂くしかない。
時代の最先端の音が、ここにはぎっしりと詰まっている。
そして、時代を超えた名作になる可能性を秘めた作品だと、僕は思う。

彼らのサウンドは、おおまかに書くと、アフリカン（中東）アートロック、サイケデリック、トランスなどのダンスミュージックのごった煮のようなもので、
前作では不穏な空気に覆われたダンスミュージックとサイケデリックジャムが混在した
力強くダンサブルなサウンドを鳴らしていた。
そして今作は、ネットで先行公開されていた11分超えの大作「グラスジャー」で幕をあける。
冷たい水のような、透明感のあるシンセサイザーの音色が何重にも重なり、
シンバルが風に吹かれてさざめくのを聞いていると、
このシンフォニックなアンビエンスは徐々にビルドアップしていき、
後半にはトランシーなシンセリフが入ってきてリズミカルなポップチューンに変わる。
涼しげで風通しの良い、エモーショナルなこの曲が、アルバムを通してのムードを象徴している。
前作に比べて今作では、ほぼ全ての曲で歌が入っており、
アルバムの曲自体がエモーショナルでポップに洗麗されてるのも特徴的。
リズム面では前作と比べて、ダンサブルからリズミカルになった印象。
リズムありきでは無く、曲にマッチしつつも思わず体を揺すってしまうような感じ。
とはいっても「マインドキラ―」ではサバンナで行われてるレイヴパーティーに迷い込んだような
下品な（褒め言葉）ダンスチューンをやっていたりもするけど。
あと、他にも「チャイニーズ・ハイ」のようなユーモラスな電子音を使った曲があって
この曲などは聴いていると、誰もいない午後のリゾートビーチに寝転がって
気持ち良くリラックスしている絵が浮かぶ。
今作では、前作にあった不穏なムードが取り除かれ、
涼しげで洗麗された無国籍ポップが、聴く人を47分間の旅に連れて行ってくれる。

From wishy washy world-beat jams to tribal trance overlords, these cooler-than-you Brooklynites take not only the crown for best album this year, but also the one for reinvention of the year.

Opening dreamily, enlightening arpeggios twinkle with sentient life. Later there are Eastern European accents, curry house bhangra, jazzy inflections and yet 4AD still seems the perfect home for Gang Gang Dance. And that's not just because singer Lizzi Bougatsos mews all Elizabeth Fraser-like during the spectacular 11+ minute opener.

Just as 4AD legends Cocteau Twins were otherworldly, so too are 2012's Gang Gang Dance. With calypso programming here, synthetic Middle Eastern grooves there, Eye Contact could well be all of Earth's radio stations as heard simultaneously from Mars.

There's a real skill to this blend. Exotic, foreign language interludes and samples bewitch and charm when they could have been plain annoying. That said, despite all this oddness, fairly popular beats and bass sequences underpin this sometimes-highly danceable aural collage.

There is relatively straightforward single material to consider too. "Adult Goth" is an intoxicating cut that threatens as much as it caresses. Though more aggressive, "MindKilla" is also no less compelling, interesting nor commercial.

A proper album that couldn't nor shouldn't work on shuffle, Eye Contact holds your gaze far longer than is polite and does so with an irresistible promise of the unknown. Be impulsive. Dance.

eye contact was my introduction to gang gang dance and what an introduction it was. the vinyl has some of the coolest artwork of any album that ive ever seen and the music is freaking phenomenal. your life pretty much sucks if you havent heard this album and vinyl is the way to do it.

This is my introduction to Gang Gang Dance. One thing that I noticed from listening to the record is that the synthesizer is implemented heavily making the record sound somewhat spacey. The instruments are used with great effect here. It doesn't get much better then the albums opener "Glass Jar". Eleven minutes may seem lengthy for one song but the way the track builds up makes it sound epic. The synths drag and then speeds up with some hard hitting drums followed by some fine tuned wailing vocals. "Adult Goth", "Chinese High", and "Romance Layers" are other selections that I enjoyed thoroughly. I also dig the interludes scattered throughout like "oo", oooo", and "oooooo". Those are some weird titles but they are meant to bridge the gaps in certain tracks to make the feel of the album more wholesome. At seven full songs long (43 minutes) it flies by but you can tell that a lot of thought went into the music and artwork. I will be surprised if this doesn't appear on any albums of the year lists.
