Voted #36 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time, Cropper has worked with blues legends such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and the Blues Brothers Band. His debut album on 429 Records is a tribute to R&B and doo wop act, The 5 Royales. Steve Croppe「Dedicated」は、Rolling Stone誌の偉大なるギターリスト100にも選ばれたSteve Cropperのギターが存分に味わえる。
Steve Cropperによる原点回帰とも言えるOtis Redding、 Wilson Pickett、the Blues Brothers BandによるR&B、Doo Wopや5Royalesなどをカヴァーした作品である。
ゲストも豪華絢爛で、 Steve Winwood、Bettye LaVette 、Willie Jones、B.B King、Lucinda Williams、Dan Pennなどが参加している。
Steve Cropperhasの味わい深いギターが好きな方には、間違いなくお奨めな一枚である。単なる企画アルバムではない作品に仕上がっている。

“名サイドマン”がリーダー作を発表すると結構コケる場合が多いですが、本作は実に良いアルバムに仕上がっていると思います。Ｒ＆Ｂやソウルの入門編というには無理がありますが、いきなりこてこてのブラック・ミュージックはちょっと...とかクラッシックなそれらに興味はあるのだが好きになれるか自信がないと言った方には向いているかも。

バーボンの入ったグラスを方に夜にゆったりと聴きたくなる傑作だと思います。

今はこのジャケットからは想像できない丸い体になっているステイーブ・クロッパーは、かつてMG'sの一員としてオーテｲス・レデｲングを支えていた。
その当時のビデオを見るとこのジャケットそのままの姿を楽しむことができる。

R&Bの世界を陰でずーっと支えてきた男は、今は、体がまんまるで笑顔がとてもすてきなオヤジになっている。その彼の長年の積み重ねの音楽が久しぶりのＣＤとなって出た。
有名無名いろんな人たちが参加しとても楽しいアルバムになっており、やさしい音色の聞かせてくれている。とても体が暖かくなる一枚だ。

う〜ん、21世紀に入ってこんなアルバムが出るなんて、時代を超えた良さってホンマにあるもんなんやねぇ〜。
（ドラえも〜ん、タイム風呂敷とタイムマシンなんていらないよ〜ぅ。）

（オーティスレディングが生きていた時代にこんなに録音技術が発達していたら、、なんて思うんですわ〜。）

　2011年にこんな音楽が楽しめるとは思ってもいませんでした。人前に出ることの苦手な私がレビューを書こうと思ったぐらいですからこのＣＤがいかに素敵かと・・・・。Black Musicと言ってもいいし、広く言うならアメリカの音楽の奥行きの深さを感じさせてくれる素晴らしいＣＤでした。とにかく楽しいし飽きない。いろんな人に紹介したい。

Why do I like this? It's like someone asking what did the Romans do for us. Also, why do I keep playing it in preference to other great albums? All I know is it makes me feel happy when I play it and I play it most days and sometimes twice+ over - on the train, in the car, on my CD player and BIG speakers. It harks back to an era when Elvis was BIG but before global 'popular' music had really started, 5 years before the Beatles released their first album, when Steve first saw the 5 Royales and REALLY liked Lowman Pauling - the guitarist, who had nothing to copy so these songs were his inspiration. For track assessments read the other reviews but it's clear to anyone that Steve is an amazing guitarist with a very good ear for a good song and a great arranger. I realise now that Lowman Pauling is sadly not recognised as a gifted composer and I confess I always assumed it was 'Mamas & Papas' who wrote 'Dedicated' - but then their version is probably the best. Anyway, Steve plays sparingly on every track and every note counts - and they are all just beautifully soulful. I do like Lucinda Williams from her solo albums so was prepared for her slurred delivery of 'dedicated'. Confess I did NOT like her delivery initially but with a few plays I do really like how she does it. Of course Betty LaVette is also amazing and Brian May's performance of 'I Do' is joyful and yet more great BM guitar. Anyway, just buy it.

Steve Cropper, of course, has long been celebrated as one of the inventors of the Stax sound and the writer or co-writer of several R&B classics. He broke through to general recognition, after a highly successful career, as one of the guitarists for the original Blues Brothers. However, he's never really broken out as a guitar hero in the same way as Hendrix, Clapton, or even Frank Zappa. He is a collaborator par excellence, and here he works with the likes of Delbert McClinton, Bettye Lavette, Sharon Jones, B. B. King, Lucinda Williams, Steve Winwood, Brian May, et al., as well as a very tight band, including keyboard guy Spooner Oldham and Dap Kings sax player Neal Sugarman. This is soul (or in some cases rock) royalty.

The album pays tribute to Lowman Pauling, the engine of the legendary 5 Royales, both early influences on Cropper. As far as I'm concerned, there's not a weak track on the disc. It's also an "honest" production - no inflation, no pretension. You get all of these people doing what they do directly and cleanly, without the fooferaw of "production values." It's the difference between a Mercedes and a pimpmobile. You could almost be hearing them in a club. This is as close to the bone of R&B as it gets. I hope that the album will re-ignite interest in the 5 Royales themselves.

On dit souvent que dans le domaine de la création il n'y a pas de valeur sûre.
S. Cropper fait mentir l'adage à coups de solos et riffs de guitares sans compter les arrangements dignes de la période où il officiait pour O. Redding et la soul en général.
En plus l'animal sait s'entourer, Lucinda Williams y est une révélation en ce qui me concerne.
Merci de ne pas avoir plongé dans un lac glacé.
