The band has landed swift success in their homeland, the UK. Moreover, they have a strong connection with their hometown of Slough. With many people referring to them as the "Slough Boys" or Brother Slough. This hometown connection is part of the bands charm. They've sold out shows all over the UK including their first ever show in Scotland. The band has toured extensively in the UK and the influential British magazine NME even named them A BAND TO WATCH IN 2011.

From inception, Viva Brother began their multiple UK tours as headliners and will have played shows at influential festivals including: SXSW, and Glastonbury. Their rowdy shows have gotten extremely positive reviews both in the US and the UK from outlets like The New York Times and SPIN.

去年（2010年）はUKロック
地盤沈下の年と言われていた。

個人的にはコーティナーズの2ndなど、

良いアルバムは出たのだが、New Comerの

活きの良さが鳴りを潜めた感はあった。

そこでと言う訳では無いが、

2011年8月、満を持して

Viva Brotherのファースト『Famous First Words』、
（よう、兄弟！）が出た。

他にもいたと思うが、アルバム購入の為にBrotherで
検索しても引っ掛からず、

その後、訳あって『Viva Brother』に変わっていた
のには少し驚いた。

因みに『Viva Brother！』は彼らがコンサートの最後に
ファンからかけられる言葉だそうで、

それなら『Famous Last Words』な訳だとも思うが。。。

曲は、本当に良い。特に1曲目、2曲目、6曲目が抜群に良い。

ハスキーで時々ファルセットになるボーカルは
UK Rockの伝統を感じる。

PVなんか見てもパンクっぽいのに、曲はビックリする位
キャッチーだ。

またリズムセクションもタイトでカッコ良い。

4年前に出たThe Enemyを彷彿させるのだけれど、
彼らはその後そんなに成功していないのだが、

Viva BrotherはこのモヤモヤしたUKロックの状況を
一変させる、かなりの存在になると期待してる！

全体的にに気合が入っているのがわかる一枚。しっとりと歌い上げる曲を次回は入れてほしい。これからの成長の幅が楽しみ。

ここ数年のロック系ジャーナリズムにおいて評価が高くなっているアーチストの作品と言えば、「・・・？これって、ロック？」な作品が、とても多くなってきているんじゃないかと、僕なんかは感じさせられてしまっている。
確かに、個々の作品を腰を据えてじっくりと聴き込んでいけば、なるほど、それぞれにいい作品であるとは思うのだが、何か一抹の淋しさを覚えてしまうのだ。
・・・ロックって、そうじゃないだろ・・・？
・・・みんな、これで納得してんのかな？・・・

そういう意味では、昨年（‘１１年）本作でデビューを果たしたこのVIVA BROTHERは、まさしくど真ん中のR&Rを、何のてらいもなくノーギミックで鳴らすバンドとなっている。
ちょっとした時代錯誤感をも抱かせられるもろブリットポップな作風も、彼らのロックに対する頑なな意志の強さを感じさせられ、非常に好感が持てる。
こんな時代だからこそ彼らのようなアティテュードを持つアーチストの存在は貴重だし、シーンを盛り上げていくためには必要なんじゃないかと感じさせられた。
歌えるヴォーカリストにシャープ＆ソリッドな演奏スタイル。
プロのミュージシャンとしての堅実な技量。
新人バンドのデビュー作としては、完全に及第点に達していると言える、と思う。
ただ、各楽曲にインパクトがないというのも確か。
全てが平均的な出来栄えで、ソツの無さだけが際立つといった印象で、作品としての吸引力に欠けているように感じられるのだ。
決して悪くはないんだけれども・・・
でも、これは今後に期待ということで。・・・

・・・と思ってたら、彼ら、この４月に解散したって、聞きました。
ホントなんだろか？
だとしたら、少し惜しいような気もしますが。・・・

このアルバムを出してすぐに解散してしまった（2017年再結成）viva brotherのデビューアルバムです。
ブリットポップのど真ん中といった印象で、ギターとフックのあるメロディーが古き良きブリットポップ時代を想起されます。
まずはシングル「Darling Buds Of May」をオススメします。

あまりにも早い解散だった。
viva brotherが残したたった一枚のアルバムは、海外メディアにはこれでもかというほど叩かれた超問題作であった。
純粋なr&rを高く評価する傾向のあるnmeさえも、たった半分の50点しか与えなかった。そしてその50点が主要メディアでほぼ最高点だったというのだからもう失笑してしまう。
彼らは数々のメディアに追い込まれてしまったのだろうか。何にも恐れていなかった彼らが、である。エネルギッシュな彼らの若さが仇となったのだろうか。はたまた彼ら自身がblurやoasisの巨大な影に慄いてしまったのだろうか。

しかしまあ、そんなことはもはやどうでもいい。
この今彼らの曲を聴けば、当時の「若さ」が凝縮されたフレッシュなブリットポップの世界を楽しむことができる。メディアが重視する芸術的な観点はひとまず置いといて、率直にこのレコードを流して耳を傾けてみて欲しい。彼らの音楽に対する前向きな姿勢が溢れんばかりに輝いていることだろう。
viva brotherの野望と未来への希望がメディアの数字によって崩れ去ったのならば、それは残念と言わざるを得ない。
逆に問うけれども、今のロックシーンにこれほどまでにストレートなバンドは存在するのだろうか？viva brotherのr&rに対する真摯な愛情こそが価値だったのである。

何の情報も持たずにこのCDを聞かされれば、９０年代初頭から後半にかけてのバンドと思う人が大半だろう。
それだけ、ブリットポップ全盛期のバンドから影響を多いに受けているのを感じさせる。
それだけではなくて、全曲シングルカットしてもおかしくないようなクオリティである。
私は2011年、このバンドのこのCDを一番聞いたと思う。
（次点でフォスターのトーチズ）
･･しかしバンドはこの一枚で解散してしまった。

UKロックシーンにおいて、リフ主体のバンドが増えつつある中、メロディーで酔わせるようなものが
好きな方は是非聞いて貰いたい。

大英帝国より突如飛び出したBritpopのサラブレッド！というにはルックスはちょい不細工、だけどそれもまたキュンとくるネ！

ってなんのことだ。いや、なんか久っさしぶりにここまでストレートなブリットポップを聴いたね。もうなんというか、聴いた瞬間に「blurだ！」とか「これってoasisっぽくね？」なんて言葉がアタマん中でぐるぐると行き交うミュージック。キャッチーに擽る感触はBlur、韻律や語尾の唄い回しにの端々にOasisが現れる楽曲は、ある種のイモ臭さ漂うPV含めて完全に90年代半ばのアノ感じや空気を再現させる。

往年のblurみたく時代をおちょくるほどのアティチュードは感じないし、oasisのようなワナビーさがあるわけでもない。そう、オリジナリティという意味ではまさしく「ナイナイ」尽くしなんだけど、なんだろう、憎めない。というか好きだ。己の懐古趣味にウマく嵌まっただけかもしれんが、このフックの効いたメロディに思わずリピートがかさむんです。かつてUKロックが大好きだった大人にこそ聴いてほしい、ある意味そんなウマさが詰まった一枚だと思う。

OASISが崩壊してUKロックの宝の一つを失ったイギリスでしたが、今度は俺たちだ!!と言わんばかりの威勢の良いバンドが出てきました。
デビュー前からビッグマウス、改名騒動と暴れん坊ぶりをいかんなく発揮してきた弱冠23歳の若造4人組バンドのデビューアルバム。

新世代と言う割には特に目新しい部分は無く、いたって王道のブリット・ポップです。
これならBlurやOasisがやったよ!と言いたくなる方もおられると思うのですが、良い言い方をすればセンスの塊、悪い言い方をすればブリット・ポップ全盛期の良いとこ取りと言ったところでしょうか。
しかし、憎いほど一つ一つの楽曲が練りに練られており、確信犯的なメロディーセンスが光っています。
一つ言いたい事があるとすれば、バラードも聞いてみたかったな〜という印象を受けました。

次作あたりでいきなり化けてきそうな非常に高いポテンシャルを兼ね備えているので、息の長いバンドであってほしいと思います。

Originally named Brother, Viva Brother was forced to change their name by an Australian "powerhouse Celtic tribal trio" that no one outside of Australia has ever heard of. I get that a legal battle with a highly publicized, up and coming rock group earns your band a few news articles, but with a lack of real competition between the two acts, is there really a need? Now, with the name battle behind them, Viva Brother is ready to take the world by storm with their version of Brit-pop revival. Or are they?

Viva Brother's "Famous First Words" has already fallen victim to some relatively negative reviews in the U.K. following an online preview that was not made available in the U.S. The vast majority of these reviews have dismissed Viva Brother as nothing more than an Oasis copycat with more ego than they're capable of backing up with talent. Although I will admit that Viva Brother is no Oasis, their brand does have its differences. Sure, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Horrors and The Vaccines are all offering up greater deviations from the original formula, but Beady Eye, a band comprised of the members of Oasis minus Noel Gallagher, did very little to distinguish themselves from their past successes and still their debut record was praised.

In the music business, timing isn't everything, but it can certainly play a huge part in the success and reception of a record. Released just over five months after Beady Eye's debut, "Famous First Words" fell victim to the success of others with a similar idea. With Noel Gallagher's solo record looming -- it's due out in October -- it is unlikely Viva Brother will be able to build enough momentum after their debut's release before much bigger names claim the spotlight.

Early criticism and unfortunate timing aside, I still find "Famous First Words" to be incredibly enjoyable and worthy of a listen for any fans of the aforementioned bands in this review. "New Year's Day" starts the album off with a bang, encouraging crowd sing-a-longs in a similar fashion to British rockers Hard-Fi. Coming from the town of Slough in England, Lee Newell's accent is frequently emphasized to extremes at times, especially on less polished tracks like "David," which may add to the appeal for American audiences, but could possibly be part of the reasoning behind many early negative reviews in the U.K.

The producer, Stephen Street, who is famous for his work with both The Smiths and Blur, captures Viva Brother's musical ideas perfectly. "Electric Daydream" blatantly tries to be the next "Champagne Supernova," Oasis' powerful '90s anthem, but for what Viva Brother seems to lack in lyrical ingenuity, Street makes up for in finding an energetic mix of voices and instruments.

Viva Brother is not an original act. They walk the walk and talk the talk of the greatest band in the world when in reality they are doing their best to capitalize on the success of their influences. While I would typically frown upon such bands, Viva Brother's belief in their sound finds its way into their music, giving an old sound new life. If listeners were told "Famous First Words" was a collection of Oasis B-sides, they'd purchase the album without a listen and tell you they love every song. Well, Viva Brother is not Oasis, but their impression of Oasis is often just as enjoyable.

VIVA BROTHER didn't set out to reinvent the wheel with "FAMOUS FIRST WORDS", they'd listened to Oasis and the rest of the 90s Britpop bands, so why not try to reignite it in 2011? They actually merge Britpop with the neo-garage rock revival of 2005-2010 & it works really, really well!! Songs are very upbeat and fun (they're not recreating Radiohead, after all; leave that to them!)

Before hearing VIVA BROTHER, the strongest Brit accent while singing I'd heard was Luke Pritchard of The Kooks. Well, Lee Newell, VIVA BROTHER'S lead singer makes Luke sound without any geographic inflection!! At first, I wasn't sure if he was doing a bit of a sardonic "take" on Briitpop, because it sounded so exagerrated to me :) But, after a few "listens" I like it more & more! It's light & easy and the "just right" amount of 10 songs, all clocking in around 2-1/2 to 3 minutes...pop ear-candy!! I think when it was released "Darling Budds of May" & "New Year's Day" were the 'hit' singles (before critics began unfairly knocking them). My favorites are "Electric Daydream" and "Time Machine", but if you like this type music, you'll enjoy the entire CD as I do!

BIG NEWS = VIVA BROTHER have gotten the band back together in 2017 as VIVA BROTHER II, and the songs are even better!!! I'm just waiting for them to be released on a CD. Right now there's no CD or EP; they're all Mp3's only & there are enough songs for a CD...hopefully, VIVA BROTHER II gets a good response to that & will soon release a CD of same!! (And former music critics will have to "eat crow"!) I guess maybe it's a case of "Once Bitten, Twice Shy". Oh, and if Lee Newell's accent is too strong, give an original 90s Britpop band who are somewhat similar, without as strong an accent as Lee a try, Menswear "Nuisance", which may very well be my next purchase!
