The opening chapter covers basic fiber preparation and spinning techniques. Chapters on singles, the spinner's basic building block, detail techniques for stand-alone singles and singles for plying; subsequent chapters cover spiral yarns, opposing plies, boucles, cable, crepe, coil, and novelty yarns. Delicious varieties such as spiral "flame yarn," "bubble crepe," "cloud yarn," and distinctive "pigtail yarn" are detailed. Beautiful illustrations and clear step-by-step diagrams are offered for each of the 80 yarns that are discussed, and pop-out boxes with tips, tricks, and food for thought (for example, "lace knitting: two-ply versus three-ply") pepper each chapter. 著者について

Sarah Anderson learned to knit at a very young age and has been hooked on the fiber crafts ever since. She taught herself to spin at 13, but it was not until 1992 that she became serious about her spinning. She developed a new technique she calls "wrap and roll," which won her a cover on Spin Off magazine in 2008. She has taught at the Spin-Off Autumn Retreat (SOAR), contributed knit designs to All New Homespun and Handknit, and teaches at many venues. She lives near Snohomish, Washington.

まず、内容がとてもいいです。
技の数々が惜しげもなく説明され、写真も豊富でわかりやすかったです。
最高の本を作ろうという作者の気合を感じました。

英語がほとんどわからない私ですが、Kindleだと和訳ツールがあるのでとても楽に読み進められました。

全て白のfiberで紡がれており、手法によりどんな糸ができてくるかがよくわかります。
全くの初心者向けではありません。でも、糸を作る事にこんなに世界が広がるという面白さを知って、頑張ろう！と初心者の方が思うのにはいいと思います。
糸は作れるようになったけど、どんなことができるか？といったアートヤーンの世界が広がります。また紡ぎ方とplyingの仕方で靴下のもちが違うか？といったところまでみれます。
最後にカードがついていて、自分の手元においておけるのもよいです。

Clearly written. Well laid out. Excellent instructions and photos. Once you have the basics down and you spin yarn - what could be next? Thicker or thinner yarn? More plies? This book will take you so much further. Textures, incorporated beads and so much more beautifully laid out in a perfect reference book. It’s a great recipe book for a huge variety of achievable, creative and usable yarn. Inspired me to move deeper into my spinning knowledge and practice and now I’m systematically attempting all the different yarns contained in this book. It’s like attending a Master Class. Love it! Fantastic value for money. Of all the books out there on the topic this one is tops.

This is the best book ever! Only with difficulty I restrain myself against using caps lock typing this. If you are going to buy just one book about spinning this must be it (though I have to warn you - never gonna happen, once you're hooked on this craft you'll want and buy more). It has everything you need to start and to go on creating wonderful yarns. All the steps from preparing fibers, spinning, setting to knitting/crocheting/weaving are covered all secrets revealed. Holding nothing back Sarah shares all her knowledge and experience. Every chapter is filled with useful tips and ideas, you'll never believe how much information this book yields unless you open it yourself.
Another thing I want to mention: good layout. As a designer I often twitch and shudder seeng books made unreadable with fonts too small or big, uncomfortable to use, making eyes water with off color combination. I'm delighted to say this is not one of those. It's beautiful.
And... In the pocket attached to back cover you'll find cards describing all the techniques for creating these wonderful yarns - to use as a quick reminder when you are at your wheel spinning.

The book is everything I hoped for: great pictures, clear instructions and a pleasure to read. It's fun to look at all the possible types of yarn even if I probably won't make them. Meanwhile, it helped me understand about twist and plying in a way that I had been unable to fully understand from the few courses that I've taken. The cards in the back also make an easy reference guide for any spinner, beginner or expert. The vendor from whom I purchased the book took quite a long time to put it in the mail so I was on pins and needles for three weeks waiting for it to arrive!
