2013 sophomore release from the Brooklyn-based musical duo consisting of band members Arone Dyer and Aron Sanchez. General Dome is the long awaited follow-up to their debut full length, Riposte, and their very well received EP Function Falls.
I am not a music reviewer, I cannot tell you what makes this band and this music great, but I can tell you that this is fresh, and awesome. This music was made by real people, for the same; if Justin Bieber doesn't make you want to puke every time you even get a whiff of it, this might not be for you. But you should still try it, we might still be able to save you from the DARK SIDE.
The most exciting album I've heard in a long time. Crash bang rhythms. Slash and burn lyrics, sung with passion and intensity. And fantastic instrumentation on the hybrid bass/ukelele and guitar/bass they made themselves and give them their name.
I love every track, from the marching thump-thump of Hiccup, Cyclopean and My Best Andre Shot, to the weird yet, for me, hook-laden melodies of Houdini Crush, Metazoa and In the Company of Fish. Although I like this more than either of them, if Tuneyards and/or Dirty Projectors is your thing, then check this out. And Riposte, their previous album, is pretty fantastic too!
I'm a huge fan of both of their records. The music is at times angular and dissonant rock. I have to stop myself from listening over and over because I don't want to tire of these fantastic records. I hope they release more.
I stumbled into a live show of this band a few months back and wanted to see if their recorded work matched the drive and sound of their live shows. It very much did and this record does not disappoint. It's always great when 2 people can make this much noise together.
This is a pretty good album, but covers the same ground as the first, 'Riposte', without the inspired highs of the latter. If I had to recommend one B&G album it would be 'Riposte'.
