A nominee for the 2013 BRITs Critics' Choice Award and included in the coveted BBC Sound of 2013 longlist, this is Laura Mvula's debut album. Described as "The voice of 2013" by the Evening Standard, the classically trained, singer-songwriter's music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Björk amongst others. A graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, Laura is a unique collison of her Caribbean background and formal music. Laura's debut single "She", produced by Steve Brown (Rumer) and mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele) is a track so lyrically poetic that it took on a life of it's own. Laura started writing songs on her laptop while working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school. Clash magazine say, "Beautiful in voice and soul, lift your eyes skyward and watch this girl soar".

新しいBlack Musicの世界観が広がります。優しく、力強くそして味わい深く心に刻まれてきます。
聴きものは、Green Garden。軽快さに加えてAfrican的な軽いアレンジに何度も聴きたくなり、つい身体を動かしてしまいます。

ラジオから流れていて、これは！と思いyou tubeで聞いて、
その結果、CD買おう！と思ったシンガーです。

新しいと思ったんですが、意外とそうでもなく（笑い
R&B、民族的な要素を感じつつ、
しっかり聞かせてくれる(うまい)歌声でした。

本物を聞きたい！と思えたので、

表題が全て。
ジャズ、アフリカン、R&B臭は全くない。
素直に取れば幸せ！となるのだろうが、正直私にはケレン味というか芝居臭さが背後に感じてのめり込めない・・・
敢えてジャンル分けするならテクノだろうなあ。
もしくは初心者向け癒し系とでも表現しようか・・・

Artista molto valida anche se (in Italia) non conosciutissima. Ha una voce molto bella e versatile, testi particolari e legati alle sue esperienze personali in grado di toccare le emozioni di chi ascolta. Once every several full moons, there arrives a debut that seems borne of perfect planetary alignments. Sing to the Moon is one. Mvula’s multi-genre mix bears the melodic self-confidence of Esperanza Spalding, the layered vocals of Enya (though done with an electronic harmonizer), the hushed innocence of Minnie Riperton, and the neo-soul celebration of Emeli Sandé, Amy Winehouse, and Janelle Monáe. Sing… opens with the cathedraled harmonies of “Like the Morning Dew,” setting the experimental mood that pervades the album. “Can’t Live with the World (on Your Shoulders)” is a tender offer to help and hold, cocooned in strings. But the anthem of the hour is “That’s Alright,” in which Mvula states her independence from the expectations of an unnamed someone: “I will never be what you want, and that’s alright, ‘cause my skin ain’t light, and my body ain’t tight, and that’s alright!” and then wryly asks “Who made you the center of the universe?” Do put this in your orbit.

Un disco que gana cada vez que lo escuchas. Con lo difícil que es hacer hoy en día algo original, Laura Mvula lo ha conseguido. Todas las canciones sin excepción son fantásticas, arreglos estupendos y ella como cantante, sublime y versátil. Recomendación total!!!

Five stars for Laura Mvula - A trained voice, a trained musician using Gospel mixed with jazz and beautiful choral arrangements. "That's Alright" has a mysterious and insistent drumbeat that catches you and has you reaching for the volume - more, more. She admits in interviews that her lyrics are usually simple and straight forward, but her songs are a beguiling call to form reaching for ecstasy. "Green Garden" is a clap-happy song with swoops and swirls of chorus swinging it along. I find this music very positive - there's no hint of the Blues. "She " marches along into an harmonious Future with lyrics to sing along with. The second CD consists of different versions of 3 songs on disc one plus others. "Sing to the Moon," (the title track) reminds me how to look forward with a Vision for the Future. She takes me there. She has a great future. RC

Just played through this album for about the 12th time and I can't tell when each track has ended and the next one began...it's a continuous ribbon of sound and vocal images that keeps me enthralled. I was initially intrigued by Laura's media style (i.e. the cropped hair, sky scraper heels and beautiful ethereal face - then the music came and I have been hooked). She has more to give - and I'm not disappointed. If a person is looking for a traditional soul/jazz/funk experience it's best not to buy this album (it's too sophisticated to be pigeonholed). She has cleverly titled her album 'Sing to the Moon'- I must agree she has communicated her music in a beautiful way and it is quite 'out of this world'. My personal favourites - Can't Live with the World - the lyrics and voice are pure and simple and yet it draws you in like an unsettling lullaby for adults! Is there Anybody Out There? is also a glassy track - all shiny and sharp and clear...love it, love, love!
