Pistol Anniesメンバーとしての活躍が忙しいシンガー・ソングライターAshley Monroe。Vince Gillをプロデューサーに迎え、実質のメジャー初ソロ・アルバムと言ってよいスタジオ第２作目の登場です。ビルボードの総合43位、カントリー10位となかなかのスタートを切りました。とにかく、その美しい声質でこれだけ繊細かつ穏やかに歌われると、どの曲を聴いていても心が洗われます。9曲と収録が少なく、トータル約31分しかないのがとても惜しい。

特に好きな曲は、まず3「Used」。“Used”、このワンワード、ワンフレーズを耳にしたたけで歌の世界に引き込まれる感覚が素晴らしい。柔らかに、でも確実にrollするイカした4「Weed Instead Of Roses」はPがゴキゲン、5「You Got Me」は穏やかなストリングスの音色がとてもフィットして良い楽曲に。オーソドックなカントリーの楽曲群、どれもとてもなめらかな仕上がりです。その仕上げはラスト9「You Ain’t Dolly (And You Ain’t Porter)」、Blake Sheltonと元気にデュエットしています。Pistol Annies、結束強し、というところでしょうか。

派手さはないですが、美しさの中に確かな芯を感じさせる音楽が詰まった好アルバムです。

日本ではあまり知名度がなく、アメリカン・カントリー・シンガー（ソングライター）としてのキャリアも長い方ではないが（スタジオ・アルバムは本作含めて３作品）、ミランダ・ランバート辺りとも音楽的交流があり、注目されるアーティストである。本作品は『Satisfied』（０９年）の１ｓｔアルバムに引き続いて、４年ぶりの２０１３年にリリースされた２ｎｄスタジオ・アルバムである。全ナンバーについて、アシュリー・モンロー自身が手掛けているが（共作）、カントリー・テイストをベースに、コンテンポラリー・ポップな味わいのあるナンバーが印象的である。各フィーチャー・ナンバーを観ると、まずはオールド・スタイルのカントリー・ポップながら、２０１１年から２０１５まで前述のミランダ・ランバートと婚姻関係にあった、ブレイク・シェルトンとのデュエット「You Ain't Dolly (And You Ain't Porter)」が注目である。タイトル・ナンバーのソフトなポップ・テイストの「Like A Rose」、「Ｗeed Instead of Roses」、「Used」、８ビートのバラード「Two Weeks Late」、コンテンポラリー・バラード・テイストの「You Got Me」、「The Morning After」、「She's Driving Me Out of Your Mind」、ソウル・テイストの窺えるポップ・ナンバー「Monroe Suede」など、カントリー・スタイルにコンテンポラリーなポップ／バラードなど、ソフトなメロディとアレンジを加えた変化が特徴のアルバムである。

期待倒れの作品だった。
最近はポップカントリーばかりで、久々のオーソドックスなカントリーであり、ビンス・ギルがプロデュースしたこともあり
かなりワクワクしながら聞いたのだが、今ひとつ届かなかった。
曲も彼女自身が書いているし、全体的にも悪くはないが、僕自身の好みではなかったのだろう。
日本のカントリーシンガーがリリースしそうな作品だった。

I Love her Album! I first discovered her through her work in the Pistol Annies. Then I found her song, Hank's Cadillac, and I loved it! So I've followed her since then. When I heard she was coming out with this new solo album, I bought it immediately! I love it! This is what True, Real Traditional country music sounds like. Best album out in ages! She's a very talented songwriter and vocalist. I love her voice! So angelic, but it can also get sultry at times too! =D A Great collection of songs. There are humorous songs, sad songs, fun songs, etc. This album is Excellently put together. Like A Rose is the first song off the album and it's very autobiographical (for Ashley). Some of my favorites from this album are Like A Rose, Monroe Suede, Used, and You Got Me. The song Monroe Suede is so fun!! I love it! The song Used has a wonderful message behind it, basically we're all worth more because of the experiences (good, bad, tough) we have gone though. It's nicely written (Ashley Monroe wrote it when she was younger). You Got Me is an amazing song, vocally and lyrically. Ashley Monroe wrote the song with Karen Fairchild (of country group Little Big Town) and Little Big Town provides backing vocals on it. It's very nicely done. The vocals and the lyrics are haunting. Beautifully done. Over all, this album is excellent and a must buy if you're a fan of Ashley Monroe or Traditional Country Music. You won't regret it.

I love the CD by Ashley Monroe. It's so refreshing to hear good old country, country music. Ashley is a really good songwriter & a pure country singer. Thanks to Vince Gill for writing & producing her CD. (I love Vince Gill also) I enjoyed the duet with Blake Shelton. I am looking forward to her next CD & to the new one by the Pistol Annies.

I received the above CD within 2 days of receiving email that it had been posted as I always do from Amazon.
I had looked at Ashley singing some of the tracks on You Tube and that impressed me enough to buy it.
Along with the fact that I already had the Cd's of her as one of the 3 members of Pistol Annies.
It's just a personal opinion but to me she's the best member of the group.
I've listened to some of Miranda Lambert's songs on You Tube and on Amazon when you can hear a little of each song on an album and felt that most of what I was hearing was a little to heavy. Backing music I'm referring to.
The title track on this album '' Like a Rose '' is a beautiful song but so are all the others. Very country and western.
Tammy might be gone years ago and a lot of the other greats. Dolly is on a big tour at the moment appearing in the 02 in Dublin soon so country and western is still around.
And Ashley Monroe is certainly one great singer to keep it there.
And, mentioning Dolly, the last track on the CD, '' You ain't Dolly (and you ain't Porter) '' with Blake Shelton is very much a good country and western song in the style of Tammy Wynette with George Jones and all the other greats who did duets together now and again.
It's a little humourous and I think Dolly herself would enjoy it. I seen her in concert many years ago and she was a person who clearly could laugh at herself, making jokes on stage about all her wigs amongst other things.
Buy this if you like country music. If you don't you'll most likely enjoy it anyway. She's a lovely singer with a great voice.
I do hope there's more albums to follow.
And I also hope the rumours are not true that the group have broken up.
Ashley is great and Pistol Annies are too.

Ashley Monroe avec son look sorti d'une photo de David Hamilton est une nouvelle venue dans la famille country.Qu'on se rassure, le grand Vince Gill (Pure Prairie League) l'a pris sous son aile et la produit de manière admirable.
On est loin du country aseptisé et proche de la vérité aussi bien dans les compositions que dans les arrangements avec pedal steel, mandoline, dobro, bref aucune faut de goût.
Amateurs de vrai country, authentique, roots sans être décalé ou obsolète, Ashley va vous combler avec sa voix de velours, compromis entre Linda et Emmylou.
Morceaux de grande classe composés par la miss, présence de Blake Shelton et Little Big Town, vous avez tout compris : elle a tout compris et çà promet pour la suite. On est loin des usurpatrices genre Taylor Swift...Allez-y sans souci!
