リンはよくオーバープロデュースと言われるが、このアルバムは気の置けない仲間たちとリラックスして作ったファミリーな雰囲気のアルバムで、ELO時代のアルバムとは一線をかくす。とてもうまの合うジョージの曲調を模しているのか、声までジョージのようだ。BlownAwayは、今は亡きジョージを想像しながら聴くと泣けてくる。プレイに参加していないけど…とあるが、トムとリンの偉大なるジョージへのトリビュートなので、参加しなくて当たり前。ジョンへの追悼曲にも聞こえるのは気のせいか…。

'50~'60年代に聴いていたオールディズの楽曲に近いものを感じてしまう。私はそのような古臭い曲が好きだ。歌詞対訳付きでないのが残念でマイナス一つ。

しかし[Blown Away]って・・・でもジョージはギター弾いてないけど

1988年に「謎」の覆面（サングラス）バンドとしてデビューした
トラヴェリング・ウィルベリーズのメンバーのソロアルバム。
1stではNelsonと名乗り、3rdではClaytonでした。
彼らの兄弟はこぞってソロアルバムをリリースしているので、
あわせてまとめてシャッフルして聴くと
まさに「Wilbury Twist」状態でどこまでも行けちゃうような気がします。

ロイ、トム、ジェフ、ジョージ、ボブ、
そして正式にはメンバーじゃなかったけどゲスト参加してくれたデル。
ロックが芽生え始めた頃、エルヴィスやビートルズに熱中したように
今、ウィルベリーズに熱中できる喜びをありがとう！

このアルバムにはロイとボブ以外のメンバーは参加していませんが、
ロイの後任として噂されていたデル・シャノンが参加してくれています。
そしてGod Bless Del Shannonのクレジットが寂しいです。

Nachdem ich die LP seit den 90ern im Regal stehen habe, war das Re-Release der willkommene Anlass, mir noch die CD zu besorgen. Jeff lynne hat es wieder geschafft, zeitlose eigene Songs hervorragend mit Klassikern (September Song, Stormy Wheather) zu kombinieren. Und gerade die Klassiker sind witzig und geistreich interpretiert. Die Zusammenstellung der Songs ist abwechslungsreich, nur die Klangqualität leider etwas dumpf. Interessanterweise haben die Stücke relativ wenig mit dem bekannten ELO-Sound zu tun, es sind eher Rock- und Blues-Nummern. Aber der Gesang, die Instrumentierung und Jeffs besondere Stimme gehen wunderbar zusammen.

The album is pure Jeff Lynne finding himself after the ELO formula tired him (and also borrowing elements from fellow Wilburys). In some ways it is like ELO music, in some ways it's totally different. Sometimes it is worse than ELO - e.g. the secong track, the cover of Don't Let Go - sometimes it is even cooler - the two singles plus What Would It Take and Blown Away are tickets to pop heaven. I don' think any true Lynne's fan could not love it, though I can see why some ELO purists might not get it entirely.
Personally speaking, it has been the most favourite disc in my huge music collection for many years. I owned it first on a cassette when it was released, later, in 1997 I found it on CD in a local shop in Eastern Slovakia and I felt like I'd found a treasure! Now I also bought the 2013 reissue, of course, and I agree with some reviewers that it could contain more bonus tracks - at least b-side I'm Gone - but I do not miss them that much because the two most melodic ones are included here, and any apparently weaker material at the end could spoil the impressions from the perfect album.
In fact, the only thing about this release that really disappointed me was negligent sleevenotes by Eric Idle. Although not very long, they contain some hollow parts and dirty jokes. He can do MUCH better! And this intelligent album would definitely deserve it. One would expect an essay on circumstances or atmosphere during making it, maybe a short interview or personal reminiscences by R. Tandy and Lynne himself... Instead, we got a slice of E. Idle's ego on a decline. Monty Pythonian sleevenotes to both Wilbury albums were of different universe quality. At least some extra photos are welcomed addition. The cover photo is altered too (though I liked the original one slightly better).
The remastered sound is a little clearer and brighter - as is usually the case with well done remasters - but it is not any dramatic change or obvious improvement; the tracks were already recorded and mixed superbly the first time.
To summarise, if you don't have the album in its original form, use the second chance now and get the new edition. Otherwise, you can be quite content with the former release, but play it more often! :-)

Este disco lo tengo original en cinta, en CD original y ahora esta reedición con el sonido mejorado mas extras, es un disco que en su momento pasó desapercibido, y que no me impactó porque no me sonaba tanto al estilo ELO, sin embargo después de irlo escuchando día si día también, se ha convertido en uno de mis favoritos (sino el que mas). Muy buenas canciones, y por fin, buen sonido. Una pena que como siempre lo que hace Jeff al menos en España pasa desapercibido. Recomendado 100%
