まず思ったのが「これ、コンパクト？」
他のメーカーのコンプリートBOXと同じですよ。
このケースでは、コンパクトとは言えこの値段でも仕方ないでしょう。(１つのケースに６枚のディスクが収まる仕組み)

ドラマに関してですが、登場人物がそれぞれみんな魅力的です。(クズな部分も含め)
60年代のアメリカが舞台ですが、現代の日本企業でもここまであからさまではなくても、セクハラや女性蔑視はあるし待遇の格差もある。
化粧室で泣く女性たち。
理由は一切語られませんが、そういうことなのだと思います。(男性から女性への侮辱が当たり前で反論できない時代？)
ペギーがそこをどう乗り切るか、出世してゆくのか、私はそこに感情移入しています。(シーズン最終話はまさかのまさかでしたが)

女性の60年代ファッションも素敵です。
グラマラスなジョーンのドレス、清楚なベティのワンピース、オリーブ少女(分かる人はアラフォー以上)のようなペギー。
シーズン２以降も楽しみです。

戦後６０年代の日本を映し出した映画や時代劇は独特の情緒と雰囲気、服装や言葉使いなどとにかく最高だけれど、
同時代のアメリカも同じ様にひときわの魅力を放っていて引きつけられます。
「マッドメン」はどこまで当時をリアルに映し出しているのかはわかりませんが、オフィスでタバコを吸ったり
アルコールを仕事中に飲むことやセクハラまがいの無法地帯など、とにかく何もかもが自由で卑猥。
今ではまったくなくなってしまった光景だからこその憧れです。

「best show on tv in this century」と冠がつくほどの大絶賛も、このドラマの魅力に取り憑かれた今と
なっては納得です。

とにかく夢中になりました。

ブルーレイは合計３枚。１シーズンがすべて入っています。そしてコメンタリー付き。
日本語字幕はありません。英語がわかる方は格安なのでこちらで十分でしょう。国内市販のブルーレイデッキで
は鑑賞可能だと思います。

　とにかく喫煙シーンが多い。職場で、家庭で。通勤の列車で。男も女も、妊婦も。第一話第二話は大半がタバコを吸うシーンといって言い。禁煙して20年になるが、煙を思い切り吸い込む感覚を思い出してしまった。喫煙が大人の嗜みだった時代ということか。
　マリリン・モンローをコピーしたような秘書がタイトなスカートをはいて、しゃなりしゃなりと闊歩するのがほほえましい。新米のさえない秘書は『アーミッシュの出身か』かとからかわれる。男性優位社会の中で職場の花のようの女性たち。
　出てくる人はほとんどが白人。黒人の役回りはウエイター、エレベーターボーイ、弁当売りくらい。公民権運動が注目されるようになる直前の時代なのだろう。1950年代後半？　もうすぐ60年代に入ろうかというところ？
　アメリカは元気いっぱいで、表面的にはうらやましいくらいに表情が明るい。とにかく笑いが絶えない。
　会社を縦糸に、家庭を横糸に、職場の浮気や家庭での女性たちの井戸端会議がドラマに織り込まれる。
　個人的には、前半はちょっと退屈だったが、後半から面白さを感じた。時代を特徴的に描いており、将来の社会の大きな変動を予感させるシーンが随所にちりばめられていると思う。シーズン２、３が楽しみだ。とは言っても、最後の４枚目のDVDはこれから。

1960年代のアメリカの縮図がNYの大手広告会社を舞台に
ものの見事に描かれています。
今でこそ自由、男女平等を標榜するアメリカ社会ですが、
奥さんや女性秘書を明らかにアシスタント扱いする男性たち、
たばこを家やオフィス内でぷかぷかすう大人たちにはびっくり。
今日のタブーが堂々と、そしてちょっぴりスノッブに描かれている
本作品はまさに大人のドラマといえるでしょう。
うーんこんな作品が日本でもオリジナルで出て欲しい！！

広告業界に所属する人にはなおのこと面白いはず。
クライアントが無知なのを良いことに、マージン取りまくりで
お客さんに売りさばく手法がまかり通っていたこの頃、
誰がこの2010年の広告業界を予測できたでしょう？？
とはいえ社内不倫、奥様方同士のつまらないグループ争いなんかは
いつの時代でもありますよねー。
・・ってか広告マンたち、遊んでばっかいないで仕事しろー！笑
でも主人公のドンの魅力には完敗！彼の人物作りが非常に上手。

クライアントの店舗に一度も行ったことが無いことを客の前で
ごまかすシーンとかほんとありがちで、同じ業界の人なら笑える箇所も満載。
WEBが出現してない時代の会議とか媒体選定とかマジアナログですよ笑。
おしいのは英語字幕が無いところ。ここ必須でしょ！？

正直、最初は、つまらないと思いました。
そういう感想もよく聞きました。

ところが、話が進めば進むほど、どんどんどんどん面白くなっていきます。
シーズンも3辺りまでいくと、これ以上の面白いドラマは存在しないと確信します。(たいがいのドラマは観てきましたが…)

アメリカでは、シーズン5の視聴率が過去の視聴率を15%も上回ったとか…。
1話完結の作品より、元々有利なのかもしれませんが、それにしても凄い。

最高のドラマだと思います。

　昨年エミー賞をとった時から気になっていましたが、ようやく観る事ができました！

奇異をてらった派手な展開は無いけれど、逆に１９６０年代という非日常空間を見事に描き、その中での人間ドラマが現代ドラマの如くドラマチックに仕掛けられていて今までに無い面白さ！！タバコや酒やセクハラといった当時の文化の描き方も面白い要素だが、特に男と女のＳＥＸを変に隠すことなく堂々と描かれている点が、２１世紀のドラマらしさを醸し出していると思います。

それと、映像（カメラ）も役者の演技もほんとうに素晴らしい！！！

　サスペンス要素、サクセスストーリー要素、昼メロ要素など盛りだくさんで、シーズン１は、マッドな登場人物紹介を兼ねたプロローグ編のようなもの。アメリカでは、既にシーズン３が製作中ということで、シーズン２はまたまた今年のエミー賞ドラマ部門で最多ノミネートらしいし、早くこの先が観た〜い！！

兎にも角にも、新しいタイプのドラマ。他のアメドラとは比較しようの無い作家性の強さとこだわり抜いたクオリティに脱帽。
スタイリッシュな映像にどこまでも人間臭いキャラクター達が繰り広げるスローなストーリー展開にはまりました。
それにしてもシーズン２がどうなるか気になる。（暴走か）

Opera fondamentale per capire gli anni '60, l'America rampante dei giovani di quella decade, i mutamenti sociali e i primi segnali di crisi. Davvero incredibili gli attori, bellissimi i costumi e la ricostruzione degli uffici, delle case, degli ambienti. L'ultima puntata di questa stagione è indimenticabile e fa venire i brividi per come riesce a trasmettere l'identità del vero pubblicitario e del come riesce ad immaginare un prodotto non per quello che è, ma per quello che rappresenta per il consumatore.

Les années 60s. Une période de transition, une société de consommation en plein essor, the American Dream en veux-tu en voilà, illustré par la vie publique et privée des membres du cabinet publicitaire Sterling Cooper. Cette toile de fond sert de trame à ces 13 épisodes de Mad Men et fait de cette série une perle rare, car peu nombreuses sont celles qui atteignent un tel degré de qualité. Le travail de recherche a dû être phénoménal pour réaliser les épisodes, (costumes, atmosphère, ambiance, vraisemblance historique et j'en passe). Rares sont les séries de ce calibre là. On n'est pas dans l'abondance des épisodes, mais dans la Qualité avec majuscule. Don Draper, un publiciste mystérieux, homme à femmes - mais marié avec deux enfants, mène la barque dans cette première saison au dénouement inattendu et très bien pensé. J'ai énormément aimé l'histoire des personnages secondaires, et encore plus la manière dont le rêve américain est illustré à travers la famille de Don Draper. Tous les acteurs jouent merveilleusement bien, et la nostalgie et la tristesse qui se dégagent de ces épisodes arrivent à nous toucher à notre insu. Une série qui fait réfléchir. Une série qui envoute et qui nous parle. Un must.

Mit MAD MEN ist dem amerik. TV-Sender AMC der große Wurf gelungen!
Bei Mad Men stimmt einfach alles, die Storyline, die Darsteller, die Ausstattung, die Mode, die fabelhaften alten amerik. Autos - jedes noch so winzige Detail wurde mit größter Sorgfalt perfekt umgesetzt.

Die 13 Episoden der 1. Staffel führen den Zuschauer in die ,gute alte Zeit' Anfang der 60er Jahre zurück, die bei näherem Hinsehen alles andere als gut war.
Es geht um die Chefs, eine Handvoll männliche Werbefachleute und einige weibl. Angestellte (fast ausnahmslos Sekretärinnen und Telefonistinnen) einer erfolgreichen Werbefirma in New York, in der geraucht und getrunken wird was das Zeug hält.
Die Hauptfigur Don Draper (Jon Hamm) hat einen undurchschaubaren Charakter. Weder seine bildschöne Ehefrau Betty (January Jones), noch seine wechselnden Geliebten, noch seine Chefs oder seine Mitarbeiter wissen genau woran sie bei ihm sind. Draper verbirgt seine wahren Gefühle genauso erfolgreich wie seine Vergangenheit - niemand weiß bei ihm mit wem er es zu tun hat. In seinem Job ist er brilliant, der Aufstieg in die ober(st)e Etage scheint vorprogrammiert.
Betty die wohlerzogene Tochter aus gutem Hause hat zwar mit Don einen Gatten gefunden der ihr ein hübsches Haus, tolle Garderobe (Daumen nach oben für die Kostümausstattung) und eine Haushaltshilfe finanziert - aber das allein macht sie nicht glücklich. Sie spürt zunehmend dass etwas in ihrer nach außenhin glücklichen Ehe mit zwei süßen Kindern nicht stimmt... und sie wird Recht behalten.
Peggy Olsen (Elisabeth Moss) ist eine Sekretärin mit durchschnittlichem Aussehen, Haare und Kleidung sind konvservativ wodurch sie von einigen Kollegen zur naiven Landpomeranze abgestempelt wird. Diese Einschätzung ist falsch, Peggy macht locker mit Fleiß, Talent und großem Ehrgeiz wett, was ihr an Schönheit fehlt. Sie schafft es in die ausschl. Männern vorbehaltene Domäne der Werbefachleute einzudringen und macht sich mit der Zeit für Draper unentbehrlich.
Der Seniorchef Bertram Cooper (Robert Morse) fällt eigentlich nur durch seinen Asien- und Hygiene-Tick auf, er überlässt die Arbeit seinen Angestellten.
Der 2. Mann in der Chefetage ist Roger Sterling (John Slattery), er dreht wie Cooper an den Schalthebeln der Macht ohne aktiv dafür arbeiten zu müssen.

Die Box enthält 5 Discs in 4 schmalen DVD-Hüllen, in der 4. findet man eine zusätzl. Bonusdisc auf der jeweils die 1. Folgen von Mad Men, Liipstick Jungle und Life zu sehen sind.

Wie zu besten Sopranos-Zeiten habe ich die 1. Staffel in 3 Tagen angesehen, bei den Staffeln 2 und 3 erging es mir trotz guter Vorsätze nicht anders.
Die Mad Men haben gute Arbeit geleistet, ich hänge am Haken... und warte ungeduldig auf die 4. Staffel die erst ab Sommer 2010 auf AMC (USA) ausgestrahlt wird.
Die Serie erhält von mir 4 1/2 Sterne, weil ich persönlich die Season 2 sogar noch besser finde.

I'm not hugely fond of giving five star reviews - reviewers on user-content-driven sites like this site tend to over-apply it for (frankly) mediocre content, thus diluting its meaning: if the majority of items reviewed are five star-rated, what about the really good stuff, 6 stars perhaps? Top ratings should only be applied to outstanding work; conversely, only the utterly abominable should receive the very lowest scores. With all that in mind, I believe the AMC series "Mad Men" to be one of the truly exceptional - a textbook example of how to achieve excellence through quality writing, without recourse to overly-spectacular special effects, excessive violence or gimmicky high-concepts (take note, makers of  Heroes ).

Mad Men is a period series set in 1960, in the bustling office of fictional New York advertising firm Sterling-Cooper (the "Mad" in the title stemming from Madison Avenue, the hub of the US Advertising Industry) in an America on the verge of massive social and political change. It follows a group of characters through their daily lives as they deal with backstabbing colleagues, overbearing bosses, stagnating marriages, illicit affairs, midlife crises and philosophical ennui. Unlike a lot of the current crop of American drama series,"Mad Men" is all about people and their relationships - there aren't any moments of ludicrous action, no car crashes or explosions, no needless recourse to supernatural deus ex machina, no yawnsome " (gulp) put - the - gun... down!" scenes - just pure, unadulterated, grown-up personal drama. Each character, from the shadowy, charismatic Don Draper (a nuanced performance from John Hamm) to the naïve, idealistic Peggy Olson, is finely drawn with subtle aspects of light and shade - you won't find two-dimensional "goodies" and "baddies" here, just believable, falliable people. Equally of note is the superbly authentic production design (which surely takes its cues from the cinema) - modernist sets, mostly static camerawork (how refreshing that the shaky-shaky CSI-style camerawork is conspicuously absent) and the evocative use of period music provides an environment to get lost in.

The period setting allows a certain degree of guilty nostalgia. To a modern audience used to a contemporary culture tempered by bland political correctness, the unabashed retrograde attitudes typical of the time (casual sexism and racism, macho posturing, copious amounts of on-screen smoking and drinking) are deplorable and yet, shamefully alluring, particularly for male viewers. It's hard to imagine such dinosaur attitudes existing today so openly. Indeed, part of the appeal of "Mad Men" is the prospect of future seasons exploring how the gathering political whirlwind of the 60s blows through Sterling Cooper's offices. The subtle hints peppered throughout Season One (references to VW's seminal "Think Small" campaign, the proto-hippie beatniks Draper encounters, the scandalising divorcee Helen Bishop from down the street) suggest a world teetering on the edge of revolution, where the certainties of Eisenhower devolve into the self-doubt and instability of the Kennedy and post-Kennedy eras. It will be fascinating to see which characters thrive and which will fall by the wayside. How will they deal with challenges like the conflict in Vietnam, the Pill, civil rights or the counter-culture movement?

Who will this series appeal to? Well, viewers fed on a diet of sappy whimsy like  Ally McBeal  or  Ugly Betty  will despair of the dark tones and the lack of immediately likeable characters.  24  action junkies will have difficulty paying attention to its slow tempo (although, the series has nothing on the glacial pacing of  LOST ) and will be confused at the lack of obvious antagonists. At the same time, "Mad Men" thankfully avoids the corny moralising and overly-smart dialogue of the likes of  The West Wing  or the short-lived  Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip : in short this could be the best series in recent memory to appear on the small screen. As such, I have no hesitation is awarding this the maximum five star rating. Roll on Season Two!
