Cream of the crop silicon here. The last produced and the highest clocked 90w TDP chip from the Xeon X5xxx series. Sure, you could fork out double or triple the cost for a 130w TDP Xeon X5690 or an i7-990x if you don't have a motherboard that can have this chip easily exceeding their performance. But if you do have a motherboard that can overclock this chip, you likely won't have any issues adding .125v or so, setting the multiplier to 25 and BCLK to 160 and enjoying a rock solid stable 4GHz 6c/12t CPU that runs cool and will lay waste to most brand new quad core CPU's in multi-threaded apps and games. Even an amateur with semi-decent cooling should have no problem running up to 4.4GHz at only 1.3v. If you have an LGA1366 motherboard laying around, this will keep the platform relevant for years as more and more apps become massively multithreaded.

Awesome CPU. The X5675 was a $1400-$1500 cpu when it was first released. You can get them for sub $100 prices at the time I’m writing this (July 2018), and upgrade an old LGA1366 socket system (ie: x58 chipset) to perform at pretty much the same level as the newer 6-core i7 cpu’s on the LGA1151 boards. I have yet to install and attempt to overclock mine, but assuming you have a good chip then you should be able to achieve 4Ghz clock speed no problem. I got this in order to upgrade an old system with an i7-920 (overclocked to 4Ghz), but decided to keep the 920 and use the 5675 as a spare.
