アニメ自体は見ていないし、どんな世界観の作品なのかも知りませんが、
梶浦由記さんの音楽という事で手にしました。
ドキュメンタリー、ゲーム、アニメと題材がなんだろうが梶浦さんは梶浦さん。
とても素晴らしいです。
少し耳にすれば梶浦さんと分かるサウンドです。
このままドキュメンタリー作品にもゲームにも使えるであろう曲ばかりです。
とても良かったです。

I absolutely love the album! I think every SAO fan should pick it up as it is a good collectible. The CDs have very great engravings to them, and the illustration that it came out with was pretty.

The only gripe I have was that the album came in slightly damaged, however that would probably be on the seller/courier's part; I'm still not too bothered by that, though!

Great OST, but a little disappointed with the second CD

While SAO is a pretty meh anime all things considered, I do think its soundtrack is quite good. If you like the OST of the series, I do think that this is a good collection to have. It's a good mix of epic-sounding battle music (well known ones like "luminous sword" or "swordland"), calmer or more melancholy tracks (like "is this love"), and other pieces of situational music. I think that Yuki Kajiura has great sense when it comes to writing music that fits the scenes in the anime, but also sound ground on their own. In particular, I enjoy how, for example, the theme for "swordland" is taken and modified for a calmer track like "friendly feelings", making this OST pretty recognizable by those who have watched the show before.

However, I was a little disappointed with the Disc 2, which contains the tracks for the Alfheim online arc and are my favourite tracks of the SAO OST corpus. As far as I can tell, almost all the tracks are pitch-shifted up and have their tempo noticeably increased compared to the recordings that are included on the bonus disc that comes with volume 7 of the anime. The only exception to this is the opening track of the disc "swordland~to be continued" which for some reason is the exact same as the original.

This is unfortunate because some of the tracks end up sounding not as good as I remember them. Slower, more sorrowful tracks like "is this love" lose some of that quality (with the cello sounding more viola or violin-like), while more exciting tracks like "fly higher and faster" sound unduly rushed.

I don't know why exactly this was done. Maybe it was artistic choice or because they included other tracks from another arc onto this disc. Whatever the reason, in my opinion, the tracks don't sound as good as they originally did.

I don't think this is a deal-breaker though. As a whole, the entire OST is great, and as far as I could tell, the music on disc 1, 3, and 4 are not touched. And despite my misgivings about the second disc, the tracks are still great, particularly if you haven't really listened to the original recordings included with the bonus disc.

My set unfortunately came with the case cracked during shipping, but I was half-expecting this because of the amount of distance this thing had to travel to get to Edmonton, Alberta. It also comes out with a little fold-out poster from the original artist for the light novels (I believe) which looks very nice as well.

Overall a nice set, with great tracks that I would recommend to fans of SAO or those who enjoy anime OSTs in general. For around 60 dollars Canadian, 4 discs (well over 100 tracks) from an imported set is actually a pretty good deal.
