光学望遠２４倍に魅かれて中古で購入したが、購入当初よりズームした被写体にオートフォーカスが機能せず、ピントがボケた写真しか撮れない。電源投入直後のみ、ズームしていない状態ではピントが合うが、ズームしたとたんにフォーカスが合わなくなる。恐らくソフトの不具合と思われるがメーカーに電話しても「補償対象期限が終了している」とのことで門前払いの状況。せめて発売当初からのＦ／Ｗ不具合なのか、出荷後に何らかの要因でそうなったのか、だけでも知りたいものの、それも出来そうにない状況のため、やむなくお蔵入りとなった。二度とオリンパス社の製品は買わない。もっとももう一般消費財はほぼないが。

普段キャノンフルサイズの一眼づかいなのですが旅先にもまともなカメラをと思い
以前はPENをつかっていましたが結局でさきでレンズちょこまかかえるっていうのも苦痛すぎて携帯になってしまいました
それでもアートフィルターに迷いがあったのですがなんとこの小ささでほとんど入ってるではありませんか!
とう事でさっそく買い替え!!!!
以前のSH-2が店頭で二万までおちたのですがカメラは最新のほうが後悔しないたちなのでこちらに

あらそういうものか…そりゃ一眼にくらべたらペンにくらべたら小型で軽いですが
1万くらいのカメラに比べると断然重い
荷物が多い女子にはちょっとつらい

指でピントがえられる、指定できるのは大変ありがたいですが
逆に指定しないととんでもな所にピントがあっていて要注意です!!!!
なぜこんな風につくったのかオリンパス!!!!!
普通のごはん写真がぼけたりするという未体験ゾーン
うーむつかいづらいぞ…

だいたい電池は150枚くらいで1へります(アートファルター多用なしで)
これはもつほう?持たない方??
普通の一眼が600枚くらいとってやっと電池にへりめがという感じなのでやはり小さいものは電池が不安ですね
あと本体ごと充電というシステムも不便だなぁと思いました

ただ色目は大変きれいです
特別設定しなくてもかなり忠実によくとれます
スーパーマクロだと本当に大接近写真がとれます

ただペンよりも咄嗟に値をかえたい時にできないというか(ペンはシャッター速度が即座にかえるモードがあったのだが)
Mで自分でかえるしかないようです
色味は即座にかえるモードがあるのですが

レンズはかえれませんが(そこがいい)超接近も大望遠もアートフィルターもこなします
やはり便利な一台かなと

画質にこだわるのであればにたよう大きさでももう少し高いソニーのものがいいと思います
レンズが違うのかうつりが全然違います　カールツァイスは伊達じゃないという事か

でもわたしはアートフィルターがよかったのでこちらで
2と3でかわってる所はそんなにないと思うので
アートフィルターに未練のない方は2でもいいと思います

やはりデザインは秀逸です。タッチパネルも大変役に立ちます。そして何より、超望遠＋手ぶれ補正の威力は絶大で、同種の最新機種と比べてもおそらく全く遜色ない、あるいはそれをしのいでいると思います。
ただし画像については、特に撮って出しの画像を拡大してしまうと、失望を覚える人が少なくないものと推察されます。シャープさは、この種のカメラとしてはかなりあるものの、解像感が不足しているため、著しい塗り絵調となります。しかし、RAWで記録し、そこから現像することを厭わないのであれば、画質への不満もカバーできるかもしれません。
自身は画質も含め全て納得の上使用しており、満足しています。

I am a home inspector and go through a lot of cameras . This is my first Olympus and I am very please with the battery life , durability and function. On average I take 1000 pictures a day and the camera holds up 👍 . I do go through 2 batteries but that is expected with the amount of pictures ( most with the flash ) . It's great because it's compact with a good zoom for roof pictures

This is as close to the perfect pocket travel zoom camera as possible, only a few things could make it perfect.

Let’s begin with some background. I am a pro photographer and videographer who has traveled the world producing award winning content. I have owned and used some of the best camera equipment ever made but I am always mindful that great photos are created by the creative eye not by fancy marketing specs. But in the same breath I have to admit that the hardware can either contribute or deny opportunities to capture what the photographer visualizes.

But let’s set pro photography and high end gear aside for a moment and stick to the topic of inexpensive point and shoot cameras like this one. I’ve owned more than I can count and of them I can only count a very few that I liked. And what qualifies to be a camera I like? That standard doesn’t have a lot to do with being a pro photographer but a lot more to do with being an average everyday family person who wants to take memorable photos on trips, family events and outings and just to toss in my pocket in case I see something interesting. And believe me, big heavy pro gear and a bag full of lenses doesn’t cut it when I am off the clock.

I literally have owned almost every brand of pocketable digital camera in the past 20 years. Of them all I’ve had some favorites and I’ve had ones that were a pain to use and gave disappointing results. Some of my favorite brands of higher end gear totally failed at understanding what a pocket travel camera should be. Some others excelled in many ways but lacked one or two features I really wanted.

Then I ran across the SH-3 model, seemingly having almost everything I wanted but darn, it never came to America and they are not easy to find. One of the two or three pocket cameras I loved the best for sheer image quality and versatility was the often overlooked Olympus XZ-1, a sleeper of a camera that bowled over its peers in several ways. That would have been my ultimate travel/fun camera except for one thing, its very limited zoom range. And along comes the SH-3, a camera of almost equal size, similar image quality, but featuring that all important super zoom that makes it a one camera solution for almost every travel/fun use. There are a handful of new ones still for sale and an equally small number of used ones being listed.

On the topic of the zoom, this one goes to the 35mm equivalent of 600mm. That’s a lot and although some cameras try to go further, it’s really not very practical. Even with good image stabilization it’s not possible to hand hold a tiny point and shoot camera when zoomed in that far and there are numerous factors that make image quality problematic. The better news is that this camera zooms out to the equivalent of 25mm, wider than most, and every millimeter counts at the wide end of the spectrum. And at that focal length it is reasonably fast, making it a good option for indoor shooting.

This is my first touchscreen camera, an option that normally wouldn’t interest me but the reality of life is that we do get used to shooting that way with our smartphones and I’ve found it useful when I don’t want to mess around with settings, like at a concert or taking pictures of kids or pets. I use it only for focus and shutter and it is accurate and dependable. By the way on this camera you can actually calibrate the touch screen.

The build quality of the SH-3 is light years ahead of most point and shoot cameras in its price range, it feels like it is carved out of a solid chunk of metal. Of course it’s not. But yet it isn’t overly heavy. The ergonomics are definitely better than some brands who sometimes seem to be designed by people who have never actually used a camera. I do miss the ability to lock the physical buttons from accidentally being pressed that a couple of my other cameras have.

It all boils down to how good the camera is able to allow me to take photos under real life travel/fun conditions, which can be challenging, so I’ll focus on three things – ability to take well exposed and well focused photos, the ability to capture fast moving subjects, and its low light capabilities.

The whole idea of a travel/fun pocketable point and shoot camera is that you want to grab it and snap and capture what often is a once in a lifetime photo. One of the biggest disappointments is when you look at your photos after a trip or event and many of them are blurry or not properly exposed. That is the primary job of this type of camera but it is also the biggest failing some cameras have. I tested the SH-3 for a day with two other similar cameras I own in typical grab and snap situations at a local theme park and compared the results later. Unfortunately it turned out my camera had a focus issue and had to be returned but there were a few images that focused okay and I could see what the camera is capable of.

CONSTRUCTION

For some reason the shape and design of this camera in illustrations of it make it look very large. In fact it is surprisingly small, about the same overall height and width of a credit card. It also looks heavy and in fact it is made with more metal than most other cameras in its class but again looks are disarming, the camera is actually about the same weight as a typical smartphone. I like that it actually can fit in a pocket because there are no sharp edges or protrusions. The one rotating dial moves with solid clicks between positions and is not easily bumped out of place. I want to emphasize that because far too many cameras, whether pocket, mirrorless or DSLR I’ve used have frustrated me by how easily their dials are knocked out of place, resulting in missed photo opportunities.

SIGNIFICANT CONS

1. No manual focus
2. No manual ISO
3. Auto mode is too automatic
4. No control button lock
5. On/off switch difficult to press
6. Power zoom much too fast
7. 4-way controller buttons small and fussy to use
8. Flash button small and difficult to use

Remember, this model never made it to U.S. distribution and any new ones still available are from offshore. There are some good bargains to be found in the used market but always, always buy from a reputable source as cameras like this can tend to be abused. If it were not for the focus issue on the copy I bought I would have liked to add it to my stable of various travel/fun cameras but that was not to be. But don’t be discouraged, if you find a good one you will probably like it a lot.

This is as close to the perfect pocket travel zoom camera as possible, only a few things could make it perfect.

Let’s begin with some background. I am a pro photographer and videographer who has traveled the world producing award winning content. I have owned and used some of the best camera equipment ever made but I am always mindful that great photos are created by the creative eye not by fancy marketing specs. But in the same breath I have to admit that the hardware can either contribute or deny opportunities to capture what the photographer visualizes.

But let’s set pro photography and high end gear aside for a moment and stick to the topic of inexpensive point and shoot cameras like this one. I’ve owned more than I can count and of them I can only count a very few that I liked. And what qualifies to be a camera I like? That standard doesn’t have a lot to do with being a pro photographer but a lot more to do with being an average everyday family person who wants to take memorable photos on trips, family events and outings and just to toss in my pocket in case I see something interesting. And believe me, big heavy pro gear and a bag full of lenses doesn’t cut it when I am off the clock.

I literally have owned almost every brand of pocketable digital camera in the past 20 years. Of them all I’ve had some favorites and I’ve had ones that were a pain to use and gave disappointing results. Some of my favorite brands of higher end gear totally failed at understanding what a pocket travel camera should be. Some others excelled in many ways but lacked one or two features I really wanted.

Then I ran across the SH-3 model, seemingly having almost everything I wanted but darn, it never came to America and they are not easy to find. One of the two or three pocket cameras I loved the best for sheer image quality and versatility was the often overlooked Olympus XZ-1, a sleeper of a camera that bowled over its peers in several ways. That would have been my ultimate travel/fun camera except for one thing, its very limited zoom range. And along comes the SH-3, a camera of almost equal size, similar image quality, but featuring that all important super zoom that makes it a one camera solution for almost every travel/fun use. There are a handful of new ones still for sale and an equally small number of used ones being listed.

On the topic of the zoom, this one goes to the 35mm equivalent of 600mm. That’s a lot and although some cameras try to go further, it’s really not very practical. Even with good image stabilization it’s not possible to hand hold a tiny point and shoot camera when zoomed in that far and there are numerous factors that make image quality problematic. The better news is that this camera zooms out to the equivalent of 25mm, wider than most, and every millimeter counts at the wide end of the spectrum. And at that focal length it is reasonably fast, making it a good option for indoor shooting.

This is my first touchscreen camera, an option that normally wouldn’t interest me but the reality of life is that we do get used to shooting that way with our smartphones and I’ve found it useful when I don’t want to mess around with settings, like at a concert or taking pictures of kids or pets. I use it only for focus and shutter and it is accurate and dependable. By the way on this camera you can actually calibrate the touch screen.

Excellent Olympus camera and it's not available yet (nor is there any word if it will be) with U.S. distributors. It must be bought from Japanese dealers, but the camera come with English detail and settings for English language. It's the latest upgrade on the SH line, and I love it. It is a great, compact travel camera with a high powered Zoom in a small package — no extra lenses needed. Great filter selection, nighttime settings, etc., as I've come to expect from Olympus. They need to sell this in the U.S.! Thanks to Amazon, you can get it regardless of what's on the Olympus official site.
