2017 release, the 13th studio album from the singer, songwriter and musician. Colors is the follow up to Grammy Album of the Year winning Morning Phase. Colors was recorded at Greg Kurstin's Los Angeles studio with Beck and Kurstin playing nearly every instrument themselves between 2013 and 2017. Beck described the recording process to music publication NME, saying "for the first year, we were experimenting and there was a lot of trial and error. I was touring constantly while making it, so I was attempting to bring some of that energy back to the studio, which isn't always the easiest thing to do."

車の中で聞きまくりの滅茶苦茶良いアルバム。
次作のハイパースペースも素晴らしくこちらの作品より芸術点高しで超おススメだが、
なんだかんだこっちのアルバムの方が聞く回数多いかな、私は。
2枚とも即買うべし。

　音楽的な分析・評価は他のリヴュアーの方々の評論にお任せいたします。

　リリース以来、1日の多くの時間、このアルバムを聴いている。
　ローファイ(死語)感のないベック先輩にしてやられる。
　全体的に音圧が高めなのだが、その中でも、バスドラのビート感と音作りに、僕はもっていかれる。
　そして、相も変わらず、「自由」を歌っておきながらその「出口」がないことを、僕は知らされる。
　今日ももっていかれている。「もっていかれそう」ではない。
　じっと自分の手を見る。

　この作品に関しては賛否両論飛び交っているが、僕は肯定したい。
　よくよく聴けば、これまでリリースされた作品と同じ基底を感じ取れるからだ。遅めなのか、あるいは早めなのか。また、ローファイでフォーキーな音作りなのか、あるいは今作品のように流行を取り入れた音作りなのか。それは、この作品に収録されている曲を、例えば前作の "Morning Phase" のようなバックトラックにしても、違和感がないであろうことから分かる。
　どこかからどう切っても、そこには〈BECK印〉が立ち上がってくるであろう。

　ありがとう、ベック先輩。感謝です。

ほぼ全編ポップネスに振り切ってます。
ラップ、ヒップホップ調はなし、へんてこ曲はwowくらい

ベックが枯れた、落ち着いた、成熟と感じた作品は「モダンギルト」
それに比べればアラフィフでこのポップ全開は、凄いエネルギッシュです。

正直、来日武道館行くまでは今一好きになれませんでしたこの作品
がしかしライブ行ってびっくり！（武道館では4曲くらいしかやらなかったけど）
このアルバム曲は違和感なく溶け込んでおり、ああ紛れもないベック作品だなと。

一番ノレたのが　DreamsではなくColors（一曲目）だったのも印象的でした。

2005年リリースの傑作「Guero」を思わせる未来形サウンドがぎっしり詰まっています。
「Colors」のタイトル通り、過剰なほどの明るさに満ちた極彩色の世界がここに。
Beckは脊椎損傷を患い「数年間、ギターを持ち上げることもできなかった」ような状態で、「Modern Guilt (2008年)」の制作も大変だったらしいのですが、様々な治療法を試み、苦難の末に見事克服。2014年には6年ぶりの新作「Morning Phase」をリリースし、第57回グラミー賞「最優秀アルバム賞」に輝いたことは、皆様ご存じの通り。
健康な状態での創作活動が優れた結果をもたらすのは当然かもしれませんが、この「Colors」での弾け飛んだようなポップ感覚はどうでしょう。
スピーカーから溢れ出る彩り鮮やかな音の群れは、Beckの「生きる喜び」そのもののように感じられます。Beatles風の「Dear Life」にそれは顕著。
冒頭の「Colors」から、ラスト「Fix Me」まで全10曲、約40分。絶好調のBeckを堪能して下さい。

限定のイエロー・アナログ盤を購入。
ベックからは久しく離れていました。
YOUTUBEで新曲を聴き、速攻購入してしまいました。
ポップな曲が多いアルバムです。
ポップな分ひねりが少なくなんだかベックっぽくない気もしましたが。
おおむね満足しています。
これを聴いて久しぶりにオデレイやミューテーションを聴いています。
懐かしいです。

Very poppy and very interesting. It is a different Beck and I love it. Punchy songs full of rhythm. The worst thing of this record is the recording, insanely out of dynamic range. I don't know who the sound engineer was but it is a terribly bad recording as far as dynamics is concerned. Why do a lot of engineers record music sⓞⓞⓞⓞⓞⓞⓞ loud?. This means the music turns into a muddy weird sound. As soon as you turn up the volume, every sound is spoiled.

When I began to research this album to see if I might like it, I found these opinions expressed: "echoey pop music", "electro-pop", "polished", "sparkly" and "Madonna ready". These descriptions were not meant as compliments. They are from one-star and two-star reviewers. But these attributes are the very reason that I do like the album. It is a pop bonanza! You can find speedy pop, electro-pop, dance pop, pop-rock, mid-tempo pop and more. Superhombre Beck is a wizard in the recording studio. His talents are limitless. His last album, "Morning Phase", earned critical acclaim and some Grammys, including Album of the Year. While I think "Morning Phase" is a superbly produced and recorded piece of work, and I was happy that Beck won the awards, it is not the kind of music that I want from him. I like it when Beck projects energy and attitude. His best albums to me are "Odelay", "Guero" and "The Information". On this 2017 album "Colors", I pretty much got what I wanted. Just about every track can be labeled "high energy", and about half of them have some noticeable attitude. Another thing that I expected, and did find, is Beck's usual tight, slick, precision-timed production. It is so tight that the majority of the tracks end quite abruptly, with no warning. And he again shows his gift for layering and interweaving different types of vocals - lead vocals, harmonies, backup vocals, reverb and some rap - all of which blend seamlessly into the kaleidoscopic music arrangements.

The lyrics on this album are just as inscrutable as those on any other Beck album. I picked up on 3 main themes, each one found in more than one song: the desire for a tight relationship; the desire to be free of limits, even in dreams; and boredom or disenchantment with life. Here are examples, one of each. In "No Distraction", the need is clear: "What I need right now is right here, only you and me a million times, a million thoughts." In "Dreams", Beck claims, "She's making me high/I wanna get me free/nothing gonna get me in my world/Ahh, stop dragging down my dreams." And in "Square One", he says, "I'm learning to enjoy the ride on the road to nowhere...You'll be fine...when you lower your expectations." One line that I like, not really applicable to these themes, is found in "Wow": "My demon's on a cell phone to your demons/Nothing's even right or wrong/It's irrelevant."

One thing I should mention is that if you listened to the samples for the MP3 tracks, you found a track #11, "Dreams [Explicit]". This track is not included on the CD. There are only 10 tracks.

Este álbum de Beck es muy disfrutable, va desde género Pop, Electrónico, Alternativo, Indie e incluso maneja algunos sonidos que me recuerdan al High Energy pero todo muy muy bien mezclado, digamos que si es algo experimental el talento del gran Beck lo hace una experiencia musical excelente y muy agradable de escuchar en LP ya que el sonido, prensado y masterización son de primera, además de que luce muy bien el Disco en Color rojo, la portada y funda gráficamente también son de buena calidad de impresión y es una portada algo minimalista pero bonita. Apúrate a comprarlo ya que por lo regular Amazon lo da a un súper precio!!! El mío me llegó como siempre muy bien empaquetado y antes de tiempo.

I loved Morning Phase. This is very different. Light pop music, but extremely well written. This guy is a prodigy for sure. Cool looking red vinyl. I believe there is an edition available with two records which allows for better sound quality. If you are very sound quality conscious and can afford that one, go for it instead. There is some slightly noticable inner groove distortion on this one, but only due to the amount of time put on one disc. Pretty common. I don't doubt they did the best possible job they could with one disc.

Dopo un album rarefatto come "Mornig Phases" (vincitore del Grammy) questo "Colors" non smentisce il doppio registro al quale Beck ci ha abituato da qualche anno. Quello che gli fa intervallare un album di ballate a uno dance. "Colors" appartiene quindi alla seconda categoria e infatti chiama al ballo dall'inizio alla fine senza cadere mai in suoni e ritmi scontati.
Come sempre i riferimenti musicali sono tanti; in questo senso mi ha colpito molto un pezzo come "Dreams" che la mia mente associa al David Bowie di "Fame" o "Let's Dance"...
Da ascoltare & ballare & ascoltare & ballare...
