今月のテーマは「英語学習」です。

どのように英語を勉強していけばいいか悩んでいる方もいるのではないでしょうか？

参考になれば幸いです。

まずは、英語を大学で教えている教授にお話しをお伺いしました。

Is The English class in University effective to learn English?

I have no idea. I never see other teachers in English classes.

Do you think English is important for Japanese?

I think it depends on each person’s plan. But if anyone, not just Japanese, in the world wants rise to the top of their personal area, they need English. If you are going to stay on the certain revel in a domestic situation, you don’t need it. If you want to teach English, publish or go to the conferences, you know, they need a readership and English in every field, in every country in the world, not just Japan.

Comparing with the past students in Aoyama Gakuin University, was the student’s attitude to English changed?

I think it depends on an individual. Each people have such so different life stories. Different people are in their lives. I don’t know which they travel or they don’t travel. It’s so much of case of each individual and lack. The part of it is what country’s music they like. There is no easy answer of the questions. I’ m sorry. I have not any music solutions. Every persons has the if they manna be good English has some reason. They have to find a reason. They need a reason. They need motivation. So in any situation, I teach English but I also teach it in other places and the general revel. Their individuals are all different. Some have motivations, sometime I know why, sometimes I don’t know why. Life experiences, people around them may be their teacher or good friend or some kind of music they like or there are so many reasons. People can be motivated. It is unpredictable.

Did you learn other foreign language?

I learned Spanish.

How did you learn Spanish?

I was lucky, because I lived in Texas. Texas has a border with Mexico. And there are a lot of Spanish. I have some really great teachers, went to Mexico regularly. So, Spanish is not just like imaginary language. There was real factional language. I didn’t come fluent. I was OK. I lost the reason learning English. I came to Japan, and forgot all of my Spanish. So, motivation disappears and I quit. But Ｉ have a good teacher. I have good surroundings.

Please advice to all Japanese students in terms of English.

Main thing is you have to something. Do something is basic point. Listening, listening, listening, listening…. Reading, reading, reading, reading…. And also, pay attention to input and output. You need both. If you really want to become good, you absolutely must have both. Input could be listening or reading. Output is speaking. But I think writing is important too. Because, then, you find out what you know. Speaking, you can be very slowly and you can start to really communicate. But, if you write, you have to have vocabulary, you have to have some grammar, and you have to have some organization. So, it focuses output in different way. I think a lot of people forget about that. But you need input and output.

英語学習には、インプット、アウトプットを両方大事にすることが大事と仰っていました。
