これ、見た目がピカチュウに似ている、かなぁ。Boing Boingでは"Pikachu of the deep"（深海のピカチュウ）と紹介している。元ネタの元ネタになっているフランス語のブログでは以下のように説明している。

Non, ce n'est pas un Pokemon que voilà, mais un authentique octopode du genre Grimpoteuthis aussi appelé « poulpe à oreilles » voire « poulpe-dumbo » ! « Grimopoteuthis ou "Poulpe Dumbo" de 20 cm vit entre 300 et 5000 m de profondeur [disons plutôt 500 m / Note de Pieuvres & Espace].

軟体動物門鞘形亜綱<頭足綱>有触毛亜目<八腕形目>*1に属するGRIMPOTEUTHISというタコの一種で、"poulpe-dumbo"という愛称もある、らしい。poulpeはフランス語でタコ。dumboは恐らくディズニー映画に登場する耳の大きな子象、ダンボのこと。少なくとも、ダンボよりはピカチュウに見た目は似ていると私は思う。

Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Instituteの解説によると、深さ300mから400m（先のフランス語のブログでは深海5000mまでを生息範囲とする、とある）のあたりに生息し、大きさは20cmまで成長する、とのこと。
