The oldest Volkswagen in America. You might mistake it for the newest.

We found the oldest VW in America (a vintage '45 model) On a farm
in Emerson,Nebraska. stll mworking everyday for Harold Kuhn, its owner.
We didn't hunt for it to put it in a museum. We did it to prove a point;
a Volkswagen may grow old, but never obsolete.
The newest VW In America (the 5OO,OOOth to come over) was at our head-
quarters in New Jersey. We wanted you to see the two side by side.
So we drove the 1945 Volkswagen 1.500 mile, and averaged about 22 miles
per gallon.
(Not nearly the mileage you'd set in a new VW,but not bad for a 15-year

  • old car.)

When you compars the oldest VW with the newest, you can spot some diff-
erences easily (if you know wha to look for)

The front (and rear windows on the new one are larger. Heflier bumpers.
New chrome strips and hub caps. Different lurn indicotors.
That's about oi1.
You wouldn't see the important changes unless you took both cars aport.
(Actually, almosl every port has changed since '45, but most of the new
parts fit any older model.)
We keep refining our refinementts, finding new ways to improve the Volks-
wagen and make it last even longer.
8ut not one change in 15 years has made a VW obsolete. (Which is why VWs
depreciate less than any other car.)
Buying a new VW is a good long-term investment. Just how long, no one knows;
even the first VWs made have not worn out.
