E3 2011
Welp, respective companies had their conferences, here's my view.
Microsoft:
- 90% Kinect garbage.
- Gears didn't jump the Kinectbus? Props, still won't buy.
- Halo 4, 5, 6 announced, oh well.
- Forza 4 looks amazing.
- Tomb Raider game will be a nice filler title, I'm sure.
Sony:
- Slept through.
I'm interested in the Vita (wheat) handheld, since it'll finally allow me to play Monster Hunter 3rd with proper analogue controls! Now I won't need to use some stupid claw style in order to control the camera! Or at least, this was my plan until they announced and started taking preorders for the PS3 revision. Hmm, do I want to play on a tiny ass screen which moves whenever I do, or do I want to play on a 1080p display?
It has a 640x480 = 307,200px = 0.3 megapixel camera, which is laughable to the point of "why bother". I'm interested in this more than the 3DS, but unless there's an absolutely must-have title at launch, I'll just wait for the price to drop and games to roll out, as per all gaming hardware tradition.
- Controller (WiiU?) looks awkward and fragile.
- Ninja Gaiden 3 is a nice surprise.
- Tekken is also a nice surprise.
- Luigi's Mansion 2 could be fun.
- Mario Kart's graphics are so bad.
^ What the fuck, does the 3DS not have anti-aliasing?
- Rest of it was just more family friendly fluff.
My E3 2010 thoughts:

...this wasn't positive either. I'm sorry.
Last year: Vesperia, ZoE3, Last Guardian. I was more disappointed last year because I actually had my hopes up - not sure why. In other words, stuff that never happened. Oh well, at least we know there's a slight possibility of ZoE3, now that the first and sequel will be getting the HD treatment.
Can I just buy ZoE2?
In short, E3 2011 predictably sucked, but was better (only thanks to Nintendo) than E3 2010. I can't remember when the last worthwhile E3 was, I know it wasn't within the last 5 years.
I really should stop making a habit of tuning into E3 every year, it's just a constant reminder of how these console companies have no clue of what their userbase want. Maybe I'm just jaded from gaming for 20+ years and knowing what I like, but I'm pretty sure gamers want games, not virtual hide-and-seek with their non-existent kids.
Edit: I forgot to mention that Kid Icarus looks really good, and I'm interested, but like the rest of the 3DS stuff, it will be "this holiday season". In other words, December.
Edit 2: While Nintendo's was obviously the best of E3, it was apparently also a gigantic crock of shit. Oh well. Maybe next year.
