NASA'S GRAVITY PROBE B TESTS EINSTEIN - HQ (NEW)
NASA's Gravity Probe B (GP-B) confirmed two key predictions
derived from Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity,
which the spacecraft was designed to test. The experiment,
launched in 2004, used four ultra-precise gyroscopes to measure
the hypothesized geodetic effect, which is the warping of space
and time around a gravitational body, and frame-dragging, which
is the amount a spinning object pulls space and time with it as it rotates.
A series of short video clips shows gyroscope rotor polishing and
roundness measurement, assembly of the probe in a clean room at Stanford,
testing of the spacecraft at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale, Calif., launch
pad rocket and fairing assembly at Vandenberg AFB in Calif., GP-B Mission
Operations Center at Stanford, GP-B spacecraft launch on April 20, 2004
from Vandenberg AFB and spacecraft separation from the Delta II 2nd stage rocket.
