無条件の愛は生命を選別する

Bioethics誌の最新号が届いたから、ぱらぱら見ていたら、こういう論文があった。

John Davis, "Selecting Potential Children and Unconditional Parental Love," Bioethics Vol.22, No.5. 2008, pp.258-268

その主張はクリアーで、もし無条件の親の愛というものがあるとしたら、それはどんな障害を持っていても生むということではなく、その逆に、可能な限り良い子どもを選択するということになるはずだ、というもの。

.... the ideal of unconditional parental love implies that we should select the very best children we can. This in turn implies that we should not create necessarily impaired lives, such as those afflicted by Huntington's disease or Down syndrome. (p.267)

どういう理屈でこういうふうになるのだろうか？　例によって詭弁分析哲学でしょうかね。ちゃんと読んでみないとわからないが。しかし、このところのBioethics誌は、こういうたぐいの論文が多いような気がする。John Davisはカリフォルニア州立大学のアシスタントプロフェッサーとのこと。
