2004年にハードカバー版として出た本のペーパーバック版(2006年).何がグッド・タイミングだったかといえば,ピアソンが今で言う「統計グラフィクス」の founder に当たるということが本書に書かれていたから.InterCommunication 原稿では,系統学と統計学における「図形言語」(系統樹,グラフ,ネットワーク)をテーマにしていたので,この本がたまたまいいタイミングでやってきてくれたおかげで,初期の数理統計学における“グラフィクス”の扱われ方がよくわかった.Edward R. Tufte のグラフィクス本とのつながりについての記述を改訂することもできた.

目次をざっと見た感じでは,「統計学者カール・ピアソン」が登場するのは,本書後半の第7章以降のようだ.しかし,“Making-of”の部分にこそおもしろみがあるはずなので,きっと前半も捨てがたし.
