Tohoku (08/18-21, 2012)

My friends Yuima, Aki, Kenya, and I decided to visit Tohoku together in the summer of 2012, after 1 year and 5 months from the devastation. My intention was to see the actual areas, meet people, and deliver the messages from the guests of TonTon Party Eat Up the Tohoku in held NY, May, 2012.

友人のYuima, Aki, Kenyaと共に東北を訪れました。震災から１年と５ヶ月でした。実際の土地をみて、人々に出逢い、そしてトントンパーティの参加者の皆様からの言葉を伝えるためです。

The pictures below are of the original city office located in the center of the city.
There were nothing remained around the area except the collapsed city office, which has been kept as a memory.

下の写真は元の市役所です。ここは街の中心だったそうですが、あたりは何も無い平地の様でした。

Muscat Cider is one of the main products of the city as of now.

マスカットサイダーは今の陸前高田の主な生産品のひとつです。

A convenience store and market built in the temporary constructions.
The original convenience store was taken by Tsunami and this one was built in the area, which was not affected as much. The original staff members work here. A lady says that she was working when Tsunami came. She started to run when she saw the huge wave coming towards the store. Because the city office was totally collapsed, none of broadcasting could have been made to tell people that Tsunami was approaching. She says that was one of the biggest reasons why so many people had to die from the devastation in Rikuzentakata.

元のコンビニは津波で流されました。仮設で働くスタッフは元のスタッフと同じメンバーです。働く女性の話を聞きました。実際の震災時、彼女は職場にいたそうです。津波が自分の方向に向かってくるのをみて、間一髪逃げました。市役所が壊滅したため、街への放送による伝達が行き届かず、情報が得られませんでした。それによって、沢山の方が亡くなってしまったのも事実だと思います。

石川さん。震災から１年と５ヶ月、経営している宴会場再開のめどがたったそうです。陸前高田市役所から許可が下りて、書類をとりにいらしてました。陸前高田に行く方、立ち寄ってみてください。素敵なおじさんです。

The miracle alone pine, which survived the devastation. The tree itself is not alive anymore, but the city is trying to keep it forever as the symbol of Rikuzentakata. Some of the money donated at the Tonton Party was contributed to this project.

奇跡の一本松。地震と津波を受けてなお、生き残った陸前高田市の希望の象徴です。松自体はもう生きてはいませんが、復興の象徴として、これを保存しようという動きがあります。パーティで皆さんに頂いた寄付金の一部はこのプロジェクトに貢献しています。
