Open Source Conference 2014 Kansai@Kyoto
On August 1-2, 2014, Open Source Conference 2014 Kansai@Kyoto was held in Kyoto.

This event is the largest OSS community gathers for in Japan. We participate as exhibitor and speaker every year. Yes, Of course as for this year.
Hiroshi Chonan was in charge of the seminar. He talked about trusty and Utopic.
The highlight of the event is as follows:
The NetBSD team displayed Luna work station of OMRON. Luna(= opposed to Sun) is very old UNIX workstation in Japan. However, the newest Twitter client "Mikutter" works in this workstation on NetBSD!
Mikutter is simple, powerful and moeful twitter client. This is very popular among young geek. (We call them "Teokure" in Japan)
This is Takayoshi Okano. He is one of greatest FLOSS translators in Japan. And it is Open Street Map mapper too.
In this way, the Japanese FLOSS community is very active and happy!
Ubuntu Introduction Kit 12.04 has been released!
'Ubuntu Introduction Kit' is the first Ubuntu book in Japan. The first release was in 2006 (for 6.06). Author of that time is Jun Kobayashi(jkbys). and 12.04 (4th) edition wrote by me.
'Ubuntu Introduction Kit' can be purchased at the bookstore (and Amazon) in Japan. Of course, Ubuntu 12.04 Japanese Remix DVD is included with this book.
Ubuntu Magazine Japan Vol.08 has been released!
"Ubuntu Magazine Japan" (a.k.a. "Ubumaga") is a first magazine specialised for Ubuntu in Japan. Ubumaga vol.08 was released on 2012/06/11. Ubumaga can be purchased at the bookstore (and Amazon) in Japan (1,200 JPY ;) ).
Ubuntu Japanese LoCo Team(include me) has wrote a lot of articles for Ubuntu users.

Open Source Conference 2011 Tokyo/Fall
Ubuntu Japanese Team attended Open Source Conference 2011 Tokyo/Fall in Japan. Participants are Mitsuya Shibata(cosmos-door), Fumihito Yoshida(hito), Nobuto Murata(nobuto), Kentaro Kazuhama(kazken3 / not a LoCo member) and me(mizuno-as).
Exhibitions(Distribution of the Oneiric CD, demo Oneiric) and seminars held. Distributed a CD of over 200 in exhibitions(total of Ubuntu ,Ubuntu server and Kubuntu). The contents of the seminar is "Ubuntu 11.10 and ARM Devices", was responsible for Fumihito Yoshida.
The team has created a mascot for each Ubuntu release. This is Oneiric(Sleeping? Dreaming?) Ocelot made by Mitsuya's partner. So cute?
Running Ubuntu on Acer ICONIA Tab A500(provided by kazken3). He is also the translator has contributed the most to the GNOME and Ubuntu.
The OSC, were also translated BoF. kazken3 talked about the Ubuntu translation in Japanese.
Open Source "Small" Conference 2011 Aizu
I and an another Japanese LoCo team member Mitsuya Shibata(lp: cosmos-door) attended Open Source "Small" Conference 2011 Aizu, Japan.
Aizu is in Fukushima Pref. Fukushima suffered the damage of the earthquake, Tsunami, and Nuclear hazard in 2011/03/11. But the open source of Fukushima is very active!
Junya Terazono(寺薗淳也). He is organizer of OSSC Aizu. He was the staff of Hayabusa in JAXA before. And, of course, he is a Ubuntu user!
Junya's presentation is about the use method of Ubuntu on his work in a university.

I and Mitsuya traveled to Aizu on the previous day.
This small temple called Sazae-Do was built 200 years or more ago.
The inside is a one-way traffic slope of double helix structure. It has structure similar to a univalve shell. It is because a Sazae(さざえ) means a univalve shell.
It is a straight road from an entrance to an exit through a summit. It is a very unusual and interesting design.
