Days 22

3rd April, Sunday. It was cold.

Last year, the first Sunday of April, I remember it was very cold too. I was at Hibiya Yaon (A small kind of stadium in Hibiya Park) and saw the concert of Joe Henry, Jesse Harris and so on. It was so much cold that I had to take hot sake.

Anyway, I have to tell the other story.

This february, I was in LA with my friends. In the car, we were listening to the best album of WAR. That was a request from one of my friends.

I love their songs too, especially, "All Day Music". And Lee Oscar's second solo album is one of my favorite too.

With LA sunshine, WAR sounded so nice more than in Tokyo. I am getting to love their mueic more.

Then after the earthquake, I happend to find this video on Youtube.

It was the WAR song "Why Can't We Be Friends?".

It was made in 70s, so maybe you think it is a little bit poor and unsophisticated. But it struck me so hard. I was in love with this video. And still I am watching this sometimes.

Let me say, their name is WAR, but they sing peaceful songs much more than others. I love them.

4月3日、日曜日。寒い。

去年の4月、ちょうど同じ第一日曜日に
日比谷野音でコンサートを見ていたけれど
そう言えば
あの日もめちゃくちゃ寒かったっけ。

話はすこし前に戻る。

2月にLAに行ったとき
同乗の友人のリクエストで
ウォーのベスト盤をよく聴いていた。

「オール・デイ・ミュージック」とか
リー・オスカーのソロとか
好きな曲は結構あったけれど、
LAの日差しを浴びながら聴くウォーは格別としか言いようがなく、
ますます彼らのことを好きになった。

地震が起きて
平静な気分ではなかなか音楽を聴けなかったとき
たまたまウォーのヴィデオクリップをYoutubeで見つけた。

曲は
「ホワイ・キャント・ウィ・ビー・フレンズ」。

70年代だから
プロモーションヴィデオとしてはずいぶん早い。
でも早いぶんだけ完成度は高くない。
ほほえましいほど低予算な感じだ。

だけど、
気分がしずみがちだったせいもあって
とても心を打たれてしまった。

今でも
ふと手が空いたときに
しばらく眺めてしまう。

考えてみれば彼らは
“戦争”って名前のグループなのにね。
泣かせやがるなあ。
