ところが、めでたく安倍氏は自民党第25代総裁に選ばれました。すげー。
ワタスの周りのアラフィフ・アラカンの方々は、「安倍だけはだめだ」とか「自民党凋落の責任者」とかさんざんにけなしておりましたが、こうなってしまいましたか。ワタスとしては、保守性を買われて登板したものの「リアルポリティックス」の前では主義を曲げざるを得なかった（例:靖国に参拝せず、米国様まで出かけて行って慰安婦発言を謝罪）彼が、再び「リアルポリティックス」に跪くことを期待します。左派とみなされる首相が現実的な対応をすると「弱腰」だけど、右派がやる分には「苦渋の決断」とか言われて評価されるのが昨今ですからね。

Mr. Abe's profile began to rise during the premiership of Junichiro Koizumi in the early 2000s, when he took a hard line against Pyongyang on the issue of abductions of Japanese nationals by North Korean agents in the 1970s and 80s. He was later elected party president in 2006, and succeeded the popular Mr. Koizumi to become Japan's youngest post-war prime minister.
But his tenure was short-lived after a string of scandals hurt his approval ratings. While he cited health reasons as a factor, his sudden resignation after only a year in office sparked accusations that he lacked the responsibility to lead the party when the going got tough. His resignation was followed by a string of short premierships of about a year on average, raising questions about the staying power of Japan's leaders.
Mr. Abe comes from a political family. His grandfather and his grandfather's brother were both prime ministers, and his father served as a foreign minister.
安倍氏の存在感が高まったのは2000年代初めの小泉純一郎首相時代で、1970~80年代に起こった北朝鮮工作員による日本人拉致事件に対し、強硬姿勢をとったことによる。のちに彼は2006年に党総裁に就任し、人気だった小泉首相の後をついで戦後最年少で首相となった。しかし、一連のスキャンダルのせいで人気が低迷し、任期は短かった。健康問題をその理由に挙げたが、在任わずか1年で突然辞任したことに対し、政権運営が困難な時に党を率いる責任感に欠けると非難された。彼の辞任後、平均して1年しかもたない首相が続き、日本の首相の指導力に疑問を生じさせた。安倍氏は政治家一家の出身である。祖父と祖父の弟は二人とも首相で、父は外務大臣だった。
