Lumberjack Competition

When I drove a car on quiet country road, I heard exhaust sounds like racing. They were not a sound by car. By chainsaw. They were holding "Lumberjack Competition"! I was very interested in it, and dropped into there.

I found 2 different event was going. One was "The Mid-Atlantic National Chainsaw Carving Competition". 15 carvers were carving big logs by chainsaw only in 2days. I could see chief of Indian, idiot, dolphin, hunter, bear, etc.. Their art was amazing. They really used only chainsaw, although they used many kind of chainsaw.

The other event was "Lumberjack Competition". Lumberjacks were playing many kinds of competition.
1) Log Rolling: competing on the speed of rolling big log by 2 persons.
2) Men/Women/Mix Bucking: competing on the speed of bucking a big log with traditional big saw
3) Men/Women Underhand Chop: lumberjacks stand atop and chop through twelve-inch logs by small ax.
4) Spring Board Chop: By notching the tree and inserting a board, the lumberjack climbs onto the board and chops off the treetop.

5) Ax Throw: throwing small ax to the target
6) Obstacle Course: Competing the total chainsaw skill of lumberjack. Chopping some logs, cutting out a block from a log, and finally chopping down the standing log to hit a coke-can on the ground.

At obstacle course, when a log hit the can and coke was splashed, audience clapped their hands.
But a lumberjack set his can too far and the log didn't reach his can (although chopping direction was exact), audience burst into laughing.

After lumberjack competition ended, carvers competed 45min carving. 15 carvers carved logs with chainsaw in only 45min, then we had an auction of them. It was also interesting.

By the way, as you can see in the photo, leaves colors were changing now, and getting colder and colder.
Although America has bunch of interesting thing, this is the time to leave U.S.! I'll leave to Japan in a few days.
