Erazim Kohak Idea & Experience: Edmund Husserl’s Project of Phenomenology in IDEAS Iから少し抜き書き;

Husserl speaks of bracketing (reduction, epoche) rather freely, without always specifying exactly what he has in mind. While describing ordinary experience in §§1_3, he used the generic term epoche in the specific sense which at times he distinguishes as eidetic. There it refers to the suspension of particulars. It is the operation of looking through instantiating particulars to grasp a phenomenon in principle.
This is not a uniquely phenomenological operation. When a child add six apples and six apples and gets eleven apples (“If I had so many, I’d lose one—my basket is too small…”) and the teacher urges to forget about apples and think of the sum, 6+6=12, she is asking him to impose an eidetic epoche. She is not doing phenomenology; the eidetic reduction is common to all knowledge. Were we able to grasp only the fact that this triangle adding up to 180°and not the principle that this is so necessarily, we should live in an Alice-in-Wonderland world in which anything could happen. That we do not live in such a world we owe to our ability to grasp principles, or, in Husserl’s terms, to impose an eidetic epoche. (p.35)
