She's just put me on, that's all!
60年代のアメリカsitcom「The Dick Van Dyke Show」S2 "The Two Faces of Rob"より。
- put onには「(衣類を)着る」のほか、様々な意味があり、ここではアメリカ英語の口語表現で「(人を)だます、かつぐ、からかう」という意味で使われている(to say things that are not true to someone in a joking way : to trick or fool someone for amusement/to joke with someone by saying something that is hard for the person to believe)。"She's just kidding me!"
- He wouldn't do that - you're putting me on.
- He said he knew the President, but I think he was just putting me on.
- I hear Joe’s quit his job.---You’re putting me on!
