They throw in Drummer Hodge, to rest
Uncoffined - just as found:
His landmark is a kopje-crest
That breaks the veldt around;
And foreign constellations west
Each night above his mound.

彼等は　鼓手のホッジを　柩さえない眠りへと
　　　投げ入れる - 見付かったままの装いで。
墓の目印は　まわりの草原（フェルト）をうち破ってそそり立つ
　　　小丘（コピ）のいただき　ひとつだけ
彼の土盛りの空たかく　来る夜　来る夜に
　　　異国の星座群が　西へと傾いていく

Young Hodge the Drummer never knew -
Fresh from his Wessex home -
The meaning of the broad Karoo,
The Bush, the dusty loam,
And why uprose to nightly view
Strange stars amid the gloam.

若い鼓手ホッジは - 英国ウェセックス地方から
　　　ぽっと出てきたばかりだったので -
広大な台地（カルー）、森林地（ブッシュ）、ほこりっぽい土壌が
　　　何を意味するのかも知らず
なぜ夕方になるたびに　薄闇のなかに
　　　見たこともない星々が昇るのかも知らなかった

Yet portion of that unknown plain
Will Hodge for ever be;
His homely Northern breast and brain
Grow to some Southern tree,
And strange-eyed constellations reign
His stars eternally.

それでもあの　ホッジが知らない平原の一部は
　　　永久に　ホッジであり続けるだろう
つつましやかな彼の北国の胸倉と頭脳は
　　　芽を出して　何かの　南国の木に育ち
奇妙な目をした星座群が　とこし（な）えに
　　　彼の運命の星を支配するだろう

雨が降らなければ、この広い世界に布施と苦行の二つとも存在しない。

The vast world rainless, one may bid adieu to charity and penance.

If heaven its watery treasures ceases to dispense,
Through the wide world cease gifts, and deeds of 'penitence'.

If rain fall not, penance and alms-deeds will not dwell within this spacious world.

தானம் தவம்இரண்டும் தங்கா வியன்உலகம்
வானம் வழங்கா தெனின்.

Both charity and penance have no place in this vast world, if rain distribute not.

நீரின் றமையா துலகெனின் யார்யார்க்கும்
வானின் றமையா தொழுக்கு.

水がなくては世の習いがかなわぬと言うなら、
雨がなくては誰にとっても正しい行いはかなわない。

If the world cannot do without water, / Neither can aught without rain.

When water fails, functions of nature cease, you say;
Thus when rain fails, no men can walk in 'duty's ordered way'.

If it be said that the duties of life cannot be discharged by any person without water,
so without rain there cannot be the flowing of water.

நீர்இன்று அமையாது உலகெனின் யார்யார்க்கும்
வான்இன்று அமையாது ஒழுக்கு.

祝日の海

こんにちは、コロンババです。

今日のコロンボは、晴れ。

今日は今月のポヤ(満月)、スリランカは祝日になります

よって車輌の往来も少なめです

牛乳が無くなり、マリンドライブのK スーパーまで出かけたんです

海がキラキラ輝いていたので、海の側まで行き写真を撮りたく思いました

普段なら交通量の多いマリンドライブですが、簡単に渡ることができたんです

↓ 祝日(ポヤ、満月の日)のインド洋

あいにく牛乳は売り切れ、ゴールロードを渡りディックマンズ・ロードのFスーパーまで歩きました

　ゴールロードも交通量が普段の半分ですネ 牛乳2本ゲット

最初からFスーパーに来ら二度手間にならずに済んだけれど、

　キラキラ輝くインド洋が見れないものね

　良しとしましょうかね
