Homes on the brink.Thousands of people desperate to hang on to their houses line up at the eleventh hour. Will they get foreclosure help in time? David Wright is in LA, where people are hoping a last ditch offer is the lifeline they need.
"So you are a financial planner and you're here?"
"Yeah."
He bought at the top of the market and now owes 50% more than his home is worth. These homeowners work out what they can afford to pay with the help of non-profit advisers. Then they head across the room and meet directly with their bank.
"It's just as big as a year ago, maybe even bigger."
"I thought the recession was over."
"Only the people in Washington think that but we people on the ground, we know that the recession is still here, just as bad, in some ways getting worse."

こころ (集英社文庫)

ようやく読んだ。硬派というか禁欲的なKに心惹かれたりもした。まあ彼は死んじまったが。先生もKに対してムキになりすぎだろう。うん、Kに対してだなありゃ。

ヒカルの碁

ヒカルの碁 1 (ジャンプ・コミックス)

古本屋で1巻と3巻だけ買って読んだ。同じボードゲームにしても、将棋に比べて囲碁はほとんど知らないので、新鮮だ。「神の一手｣を目指しているとか言われるとなんかすごい違和感があるけど少年漫画という免罪符のおかげでオールオッケーむしろ美徳に。
話は変わるが、コンピューターの囲碁ソフトはまだまだ人間の相手にはならないらしい。単純に選択肢の数が将棋とは比較にならないし、数十手先を見越した構想や布石に対する価値判断というのができないのだろう。
「先を読む」というアルゴリズムを実装しようとする限り人間には勝てないんだろう。
