Arthur C. Danto, アーサー・ダントー（アーサー・C・ダント、アーサー・ダントウ）

1924年生まれ。アメリカの分析哲学者。コロンビア大学名誉教授（哲学）。歴史の言説構造を「物語」と捉えた1965年の『歴史の分析哲学』によって英米およびドイツの歴史哲学に大きな影響を与える一方で、アンディ・ウォーホル《ブリロ・ボックス》を論じた1964年の論文「アートワールド」において、芸術が芸術であるのは芸術理論や美術史といったコンテクスト（＝アートワールド）による、と主張し、ジョージ・ディッキーの芸術制度論をはじめとしたアメリカ分析美学にも大きな影響を与える。ほかにも、分析哲学の見地からニーチェやサルトルを論じ、知識論や行為論を展開、『ネイション』誌や『アートフォーラム』誌にて芸術批評も積極的におこなう。
