東京オリンピック・パラリンピックのメイン会場となる新国立競技場のイメージ図が公表されました。

New National Stadium to be built with wood from disaster-hit area

The Japan Sport Council (JSC) released on Friday 11 artist renditions of the new National Stadium, which will become the main venue for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

The design includes Japanese touches, such as traditional andon lights installed on the stadium’s concourse and shoji and lattice screens in the VIP lounge.

Architect Kengo Kuma, who designed the stadium, revealed his intention to use lumber from the area stricken by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

“I’m working on the project with a wish to use lumber from the areas that are going through the reconstruction process,” Kuma said at a press conference at the council.

The stadium will feature the extensive use of wood. Construction will begin in December.

今回取り上げるのは “lattice” です。LDOCEで調べると、latticeもしくはlatticeworkで “a pattern or structure made of long pieces of wood, plastic etc that cross each other so that the spaces between them are shaped like diamonds” と説明されておりました。格子模様の他に、木やプラスチックなどで作られた格子のこともさすようです。次に『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で確認すると、「格子、格子細工」という意味が載っておりました。
記事の内容に戻りますと、ラウンジを仕切るものとして障子や格子を取り入れた案であることがわかりました。
